Central Districts Cricket Team
The Central Stags, formerly known as Central Districts, are a first-class cricket team based in central New Zealand. They are the men's representative side of the Central Districts Cricket Association. They compete in the Plunket Shield first-class competition, The Ford Trophy domestic one-day competition and the Men's Super Smash Twenty20 competition. They are one of six teams that make up New Zealand Cricket. They were the fifth of the current teams to compete in the Plunket Shield, which they entered for the first time in the 1950/51 season. Hawke's Bay Cricket Team
The Hawke's Bay cricket team, representing the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand, played first-class cricket between 1883–84 and 1920–21, and competed in the Plunket Shield in the 1914–15 and 1920–21 seasons. The side has continued to appear in minor cricket and now competes in the Hawke Cup competition. First-class history In their first match at first-class level, against Wellington at the Basin Reserve in February 1884, Hawke's Bay were dismissed for just 32 in their second innings thanks to Joseph Firth's remarkable return of 8 for 13 from 13 four-ball overs. In their next match, in 1884–85, they beat Wellington at Napier Recreation Ground by eight wickets. They lost their next three matches, all against Wellington, before trouncing Taranaki in two matches in 1891–92. Peter Ingram
Peter John Ingram (born 25 October 1978) is a former New Zealand cricketer, who played for Central Districts. He is a right-handed batsman primarily, and is an occasional right arm off spin bowler. He is the fastest male cricketer to earn his first cap in all three formats of international cricket, doing so in the space of twelve days. His batting style is akin to Virender Sehwag, with minimal foot movement, and he has credited Sehwag to helping his batting improve. Early life Whilst being a talented cricketer, Ingram was also considered to represent his hometown in rugby. However, he gave up rugby when he broke his jaw during a trial. The South Island, also officially named , is the larger of the two major islands of New Zealand in surface area, the other being the smaller but more populous North Island. Nelson Cricket Team
Nelson cricket team is a cricket team representing the Nelson Region of New Zealand. It played first-class cricket from 1874 to 1891, and currently competes in the Hawke Cup. Playing history Cricket was first reported as being played in Nelson in the ''Nelson Examiner'' in March 1844, in a match between the Surveyors of the Land Company and Nelson. Nelson as a representative team played interprovincial cricket as early as 1862, later first playing first-class cricket in 1873-74 against Wellington at the Basin Reserve, becoming the fifth team to play first-class cricket in New Zealand. This match is also notable for having ended in a tie, the eighth time this had happened and one of sixty occasions overall that a first-class match has ended in such a result. Marlborough Cricket Team
The Marlborough cricket team represents the Marlborough Region of the South Island of New Zealand. It competes in the Hawke Cup. Its base is in Blenheim. History Early years A Marlborough Cricket Club was formed in Blenheim in late 1860. The first properly organised match in the region appears to have been held at Blenheim in January 1862, between Blenheim and Picton, in a paddock belonging to the Resident Magistrate, S. L. Muller. Picton won. Marlborough teams travelled to play interprovincial matches against Nelson in Nelson in March 1863 and against Wellington in Wellington in March 1866. Wanganui
Whanganui (; ), also spelled Wanganui, is a city in the Manawatū-Whanganui region of New Zealand. The city is located on the west coast of the North Island at the mouth of the Whanganui River, New Zealand's longest navigable waterway. Wairarapa Cricket Team
The Wairarapa cricket team represents the Wairarapa region of the North Island of New Zealand. It is one of the 21 teams from around New Zealand that compete in the Hawke Cup. Its base is in Masterton. Early history Cricket has been played in the region since the mid-1860s. Festivities at Greytown on New Year's Day 1867 included men's and women's cricket matches – the first known instance of women's cricket in New Zealand. The Greytown Cricket Club was formed later that year. The first Wairarapa Cricket Association was formed in the 1870s, based in Greytown. Taranaki cricket team represents the Taranaki Region of New Zealand. It competes in the Hawke Cup. Taranaki as a representative team played as early as 1877. First-class matches Between 1883 and 1898 Taranaki played eight matches that are now considered first-class. They won one match, lost six and drew one. 1882–83 * At Auckland Domain in March 1883, Auckland 241 defeated Taranaki 63 and 55 by an innings and 123 runs.
