The Central American Championships in Athletics (Campeonatos Centroamericanos Mayores) is an athletics event organized by the Confederación Atlética del Istmo Centroamericano CADICA (Central American Isthmus Athletic Confederation) open for athletes from member associations. Team ranking There is an overall winner in the team ranking based on points awarded for the athlete's placings. Moreover, there are winners in team ranking in the men's and women's categories. The point system changed over the years. In the early years, points were awarded for athletes on the first 6 places (6 points for the 1st place, 5 points for the 2nd place, ..., 1 point for the 6th place). The Central American Junior and Youth Championships in Athletics (''Spanish: Campeonatos Centroamericanos Juvenil A y B'') is an athletics event organized by the Central American Isthmus Athletic Confederation (CADICA) (''Spanish: Confederación Atlética del Istmo Centroamericano'') open for athletes from member associations. The event is divided into the Junior B Central American Championships and the Junior A Central American Championships. The Junior A category is open for girls and boys aged 18–19. The Junior B category is open for girls and boys aged 15–17. There is a report on an early Central American Junior Championship held in the year 1975 in Guatemala. At least from 1997 on, it is verified that the competition is held annually. Records can be set by both Junior (U-20) and Youth (U-18) athletes who compete at the championships in their category representing one of CADICA's member federations. The Centrobasket is a FIBA-sponsored international basketball tournament where national teams from Central America and the Caribbean participate. These countries make up the Central American and Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CONCENCABA). The top three or four Women's National teams typically earn berths to the FIBA Women's AmeriCup, from which they can qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup or Summer Olympics. Typically these championships are recurring, the most common formats being annual, biennial and quadrennial. The Pan American Games is the highest level sporting competition for the region.
