The Central women's field hockey team are an amateur sports team based in New Zealand. The team competes annually in the Ford National Hockey League (NHL). Central have won the NHL a total of 2 times, most recently in 2009. New Zealand National Hockey League
The New Zealand National Hockey League, known also by the sponsored name Ford National Hockey League, was the New Zealand's national field hockey championship. The competition features players from New Zealand's national hockey teams, the Black Sticks Men and Women. The most recent champions are North Harbour in the men's tournament, and North Harbour in the women's. History The first season of both the men's and women's Ford National Hockey League took place in 2000, and has been held annually since. The most successful team in both the men's and women's competition is Auckland, with both teams having won 5 titles apiece. 2019 will mark the end of the Ford NHL, with Hockey New Zealand restructuring the tournament into the Premier Hockey League in 2020. Kayla Whitelock
Kayla Marie Whitelock (née Sharland, born 30 October 1985) is a New Zealand field hockey player, and former captain of the New Zealand women's national field hockey team (the ''Black Sticks Women''). She has competed in four Olympic Games (2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016), three Commonwealth Games (2006, 2010 and 2014) and two Hockey World Cups (2010 and 2014). She was named on the FIH's All-Star Team in 2010 and was Hockey New Zealand's player of the year in 2012. Biography Whitelock was born in Palmerston North, and is of Rangitāne descent. She married Crusaders rugby player George Whitelock in December 2013. Whitelock took up hockey at the age of seven, as her school only played hockey, not her preferred sport, netball. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. 2017 Women's Ford National Hockey League
The 2017 Women's Ford National Hockey League was the 19th edition of the women's field hockey tournament. The competition was held in Wellington, New Zealand from 16–24 September. The tournament saw an increase to eight teams from the seven that contested the 2016 edition. Midlands won the title for the second time, defeating Northland 4–2 in the final. Auckland finished third after defeating North Harbour 3–0 in a penalty shoot-out after the third place match finished 1–1. Georgia Barnett
Georgia Barnett (born ) is a New Zealand field hockey player. A goalkeeper, she represents the Central Mysticks in the New Zealand National Hockey League. She currently plays for the New Zealand women's national field hockey team. With the national youth team she won the bronze medal at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics. Barnett's coaching career began in 2019 when she coached the Central U18 women's team to gold at the national tournament. Emily Gaddum
Emily Sarah Gaddum (née Naylor; born 23 December 1985) is a former New Zealand field hockey player. One of the country's most experienced players, she was due to finish her career after her fourth Olympic appearance at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, but her retirement due to pregnancy was announced when the 2016 Olympic squad was named. Private life Gaddum was born in 1985 in Palmerston North, New Zealand and attended Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School, and then Palmerston North Girls' High School.
