Center For Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) - TU Dresden
The Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) of the Technische Universität Dresden is part of the Excellence Initiative of German universities. The cluster of excellence for microelectronics is funded from 2012 to 2017 by the German Research Community (DFG) and unites about 60 Investigators and their teams from 11 institutions to act jointly towards reaching the Cluster's ambitious aims. The coordinator is Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerhard Fettweis, Chair of Mobile Communication Systems. Gerhard Fettweis
Gerhard Paul Fettweis (born March 16, 1962 in Antwerp) is a German electrical engineer and university professor for telecommunications engineering. Gerhard's father Alfred Fettweis invented the ''Wave Digital Filter''. With a scholarship from the prestigious Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes Gerhard Fettweis studied electrical engineering at RWTH Aachen University from 1981 to 1986, and received his ''Dr.-Ing.'' (PhD in engineering) degree there in 1990. He then worked as a visiting scholar with IBM and TCSI Inc. in Berkeley. Since 1994, he holds the ''Vodafone Chair for Mobile Communications Systems'' at Dresden University of Technology. The Excellence Initiative of the German Council of Science and Humanities and the German Research Foundation (DFG) aims to promote cutting-edge research and to create outstanding conditions for young scholars at universities, to deepen cooperation between disciplines and institutions, to strengthen international cooperation of research, and to enhance the international appeal of excellent German universities. It is the result of lengthy negotiations between the federal government and the German states. The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) is a Dresden-based research laboratory. It conducts research in three of the Helmholtz Association's areas: materials, health, and energy.
