Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area
The Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of three counties in Iowa, anchored by the city of Cedar Rapids. As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 257,940, and a 2013 population estimate of 262,421. The Cedar Rapids MSA is part of a Combined Statistical Area (CSA) with the Iowa City MSA. The area is marketed regionally as Iowa City-Cedar Rapids (ICR), or the "Corridor" (referring to the Interstate 380 corridor) which includes both the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City metropolitan areas and several surrounding counties. Alburnett was established in 1887, with the building of the Illinois Central Railroad through the area. Walford is a city in Benton and Linn counties in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 1,366 at the time of the 2020 census. It is part of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Walford was originally called Terry, and under the latter name was laid out in the year 1884 when the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad was extended to that point. In 1889, the town's name was changed to Walford, primarily at the behest of the U.S. Postal Service due to the similarity of names between Terry and Perry, Iowa. Palo is a city in Linn County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,407 at the time of the 2020 census. It is part of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area. Palo is located near Pleasant Creek State Recreation Park. History In 1849 a regional post office was named by Marion resident Dr. Bardwell, shortly after the Battle of Palo Alto in the Mexican-American War. Dr. Bardwell, used the short name Palo. The town was surveyed in 1854 and the first building in Palo was built in the same year and the town took its name from the local post office. Mount Vernon is a city in Linn County, Iowa, United States, adjacent to the city of Lisbon. The population was 4,527 at the time of the 2020 census. Mount Vernon is part of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Mount Vernon was laid out in 1847, but its origins date back to at least 1838, when it was known as Pinhook, a popular rest stop on Military Road, which ran between Dubuque, on the Mississippi River, and Iowa City.
