Cecil Dixon (footballer)
Cecil Hubert Dixon (born 28 March 1935) is an English former professional footballer. A winger, he joined Newport County in 1957 from Cardiff City and went on to make 107 appearances for Newport, scoring 15 goals before finishing his career at Northampton Town. Career Dixon began his career at his home town club Trowbridge Town. Trowbridge
Trowbridge ( ) is the county town of Wiltshire, England, on the River Biss in the west of the county. It is near the border with Somerset and lies southeast of Bath, 31 miles (49 km) southwest of Swindon and 20 miles (32 km) southeast of Bristol. The town had a population of 37,169 in 2021. Long a market town, the Kennet and Avon canal to the north of Trowbridge played an instrumental part in the town's development as it allowed coal to be transported from the Somerset Coalfield and so marked the advent of steam-powered manufacturing in woollen cloth mills. Brian Walsh (English Footballer)
John Brian Walsh (26 March 1932 – January 2001) was an English professional footballer. Career Walsh began his career playing non-league football before joining Arsenal as an amateur in March 1949 before signing professional for the club five months later. He played a handful of friendlies for Arsenal before being called up for national service in 1950. He returned to Highbury in 1952 and played regularly for the reserve side before making his debut on 26 September 1953 against Cardiff City. He went on to make just seventeen league appearances for the club before leaving as part of a deal which saw Cardiff City players Mike Tiddy and Gordon Nutt move to London and Walsh move the other way to Ninian Park. He made his Cardiff debut in a 2–1 win over Preston North End and his performances on the wing saw him become popular with the Cardiff fans. Ninian Park
Ninian Park was a football stadium in the Leckwith area of Cardiff, Wales, that was the home of Cardiff City F.C. for 99 years. Opened in 1910 with a single wooden stand, it underwent numerous renovations during its lifespan and hosted fixtures with over 60,000 spectators in attendance. At the time of its closure in 2009, it had a capacity of 21,508. Cardiff City had originally been playing home fixtures at Sophia Gardens but the lack of facilities at the ground had prevented them from joining the Southern Football League. To combat this, club founder Bartley Wilson secured a plot of land from Cardiff Corporation that had previously been used as a rubbish tip and construction of a new ground began in 1909. Mike Tiddy
Michael Douglas Tiddy (4 April 1929 – 25 November 2009) was an English professional footballer and manager. Career Born in Cadgwith, Cornwall, Tiddy, the older of two footballing brothers joined Torquay United at the end of World War II but was forced to wait two years to play for the club while he finished his National Service. He left Torquay in November 1950 to sign for Cardiff City and he became a virtual ever-present in the Cardiff line-up for the next five years, and was one of the club's most popular players during the 1950s before moving to Arsenal in 1955 along with Gordon Nutt in exchange for Brian Walsh. Tiddy made his debut against Sunderland on 24 September 1955 but most of his time in London was spent in the treatment room as he suffered from numerous injuries, which forced him to undergo a cartilage operation. Gordon Nutt (8 November 1932 – 25 February 2014) was an English professional footballer who played as a winger. Nutt played in the Football League for Coventry City, Cardiff City, Arsenal and Southend United, in the Netherlands for PSV Eindhoven, and in Australia for Sydney Croatia and Manly-Warringah. Career Playing career Born in South Yardley, Nutt played youth football for Sheldon Town. He then went on to Coventry City in 1951, scoring 11 goals in 76 appearances over the next three seasons. In 1954 he signed for Cardiff City, where he spent one season, making 17 appearances. In 1955 he signed for Arsenal. Nutt spent a total of 5 seasons with the club, scoring 10 goals in 51 appearances.
