Cavalry FC–Forge FC Rivalry
The Cavalry–Forge rivalry is a list of association football rivalries, soccer rivalry between Calgary-based Cavalry FC and Forge FC of Hamilton, Ontario. The two clubs began play in 2019 and faced each other nine times that season with all matches being decided by one goal or fewer. The clubs were the top teams in the inaugural Canadian Premier League season and the natural rivalry that developed between them has been described as the best in the league. History The first match between Cavalry and Forge was played on May 12, 2019, at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton. Cavalry won the game 2–1 with the winning goal from Nico Pasquotti coming late in stoppage time. The following month, the two clubs met in the second round of the 2019 Canadian Championship. 2019 Canadian Premier League Season
The 2019 Canadian Premier League season was the inaugural season of the Canadian Premier League, the top level of Canadian professional soccer. The regular season began on April 27 and ended on October 19, with seven teams competing. The inaugural match of the Canadian Premier League took place between Forge FC and York9 at Tim Hortons Field on April 27, 2019, which ended in a 1–1 draw. Jonathan "Jay" Wheeldon (born 28 August 1988) is an English football coach and former player who serves as head coach of Calgary Foothills. Career Early career After spending many of his youth years with English academies Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle, Wheeldon signed his first professional contract with Torquay United in League Two. 2019 Canadian Premier League Finals
The 2019 Canadian Premier League Finals determined the winner of the Canadian Premier League's inaugural 2019 season. It featured Cavalry FC of Calgary, Alberta, and Forge FC of Hamilton, Ontario, and was the culmination of a rivalry that had developed between those teams. It was contested over two legs between the winners of the spring and fall seasons, with the fall season winners choosing which leg to host. Since Cavalry won both split seasons, the team with the second-best overall season record, Forge, also competed in the Championship.
