''Catch 22'' is the eighth studio album by Swedish melodic death metal band Hypocrisy (band), Hypocrisy. It was released on 19 March 2002 by Nuclear Blast. Track listing 2008 re-release On 9 May 2008, the album was re-released as ''Catch 22 V2.0.08''. Peter Tägtgren re-recorded the vocals and guitar parts and remixed and remastered the album. He said on the official site, "We still think it is a great fucking album but it got slammed and misunderstood because of the vocal style and the drumsound and so on." Hypocrisy is a Swedish death metal band formed in October 1991 in Ludvika by Peter Tägtgren. History After spending three years in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1990, founder Peter Tägtgren returned to his homeland of Sweden, to form his own band. Hypocrisy's early releases were noted as being well-executed death metal, but panned for not being particularly innovative. That criticism waned as the band matured, cultivating a more distinctive sound as well as employing an introspective lyrical approach. Later releases have a more atmospheric sound, with lyrical exploration of aliens and abduction experiences. Tägtgren's experience as a producer may also have led to the band's change in musical direction, as he is more closely involved with many other bands while producing their albums. After twice cancelling a U.S. tour in 2009, Hypocrisy confirmed a North American tour for 2010. Melodic death metal (also referred to as melodeath) is a subgenre of death metal that employs highly melodic guitar riffs, often borrowing from traditional heavy metal (including New Wave of British Heavy Metal). The genre features the heaviness of death metal but with highly melodic or harmonized guitar riffs and solos, and often features high-pitched shrieked vocals (differing from traditional death metal) alongside the low-pitched growls commonly featured in traditional death metal. Pioneered by the English heavy metal band Carcass with their 1993 album ''Heartwork'', melodic death metal developed further in Sweden (developed by bands like At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity, and In Flames) in the mid-1990s. Nuclear Blast is a record label and mail order record distributor with subsidiaries in Germany, the United States and Brazil. The label was founded in 1987 by Markus Staiger in Germany. Peter Tägtgren
Alf Peter Tägtgren (born 3 June 1970) is a Swedish musician, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. He is the founder, main songwriter, lead vocalist, and guitarist of death metal band Hypocrisy as well as the industrial metal band Pain in which he is the only member. He is also the owner of ''The Abyss'' recording studio and the co-founder of Lindemann, a music project between Tägtgren and Rammstein vocalist Till Lindemann. Tägtgren left Lindemann in 2020. Music career Tägtgren started playing drums at the age of nine and later learned to play guitar, bass and keyboard. After Tägtgren's first band Conquest disbanded, he emigrated to the United States. There, he became part of the death metal scene after participating in practice sessions with Malevolent Creation's guitarist, Phil Fasciana. The Arrival (album)
''The Arrival'' is the ninth studio album by Swedish death metal band Hypocrisy, released on 16 February 2004. It is the last album with their longtime drummer Lars Szöke. The song "Eraser" was made into a music video. The album was also released in a strictly limited boxset, containing "The Arrival", eight postcards and a bonus DVD of Hypocrisy's complete live show at Summer Breeze Festival in 2002. Dan Swanö (tracks 1, 3, 4, 7–9) and Silenoz (track 5) wrote lyrics for the album. The band wrote lyrics for track 2 and Tägtgren also wrote lyrics for tracks 4–6.
