Castlereagh (County Roscommon Barony)
Castlereagh ( ga, An Caisleán Riabhach) is a barony in County Roscommon, Ireland. It is named after the town of Castlerea within the barony. Its area in 1891 was . It contains five civil parishes: Ballintober, Baslick, Kilkeevin, Kilcorkey, and Kiltullagh; including the towns of Ballinlough, Bellanagare, Castlerea, and Cloonfad. History Castlereagh barony was anciently part of the territory of the Síol Maelruain, ruled by the Flynn (Ó Floinn) family, whose name survive in the large lake in the barony, Lough O'Flynn. Baron Mount Sandford
Baron Mount Sandford, of Castlerea in the County of Roscommon, was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created on 31 July 1800 for Henry Sandford, with remainder in default of male issue of his own, to his brothers William Sandford and George Sandford, and the heirs male of their bodies. He had previously represented Roscommon in the Irish House of Commons. He was succeeded according to the special remainder by his nephew, the second Baron. He was the son of William Sandford. Lord Mount Sandford was kicked to death during a brawl at Windsor on his way to the Ascot races in 1828. He was succeeded by his uncle, the third Baron. He had previously represented County Roscommon and the borough of Roscommon in the Irish Parliament. The barony became extinct on his death on 25 September 1846. Lough O'Flynn
Lough O'Flynn () is a freshwater lake in the west of Ireland. It is located in west County Roscommon and is the source of the River Suck. Name The name is from the Gaelic Irish tribe of the Ó Floinn, who ruled the region known as Síol Maelruain in the Middle Ages. The tribe was one of the main families in Kiltullagh parish. Geography Lough O'Flynn measures about long and wide. It is located about east of Ballyhaunis, just north of the village of Ballinlough and is the source of the River Suck. There is an artificial island known as a crannog in the lake; this is believed to date back to the Medieval period, when it would have been used as a place of safety to retreat to when under attack. There are marked trails along bog tracks leading around the lake, with views of the lake and river as well as surrounding areas of bog scrub, coniferous woodland and open peatland. Síol Maelruain
Síol Maelruain was a territory located in north County Roscommon due west, from what is now Castlerea. Its lake, Lough O'Flynn, is the source of the River Suck and is located at the foot of Slieve O'Flynn mountain. Cloonfad
Cloonfad () is a village in County Roscommon, Ireland, at the crossroads of the N83 National secondary road and the R327 regional road, about 10 km from the town of Ballyhaunis in County Mayo. A public walkway takes walkers to neighbouring villages through surrounding moorland. This habitat gave rise to the village's name in Irish - ''Cluain Fada'' or "Long Meadow". Cloonfad's local church, the Church of Saint Patrick, has been publishing an annual parish magazine since 1992 "The Cloonfad Magazine". The village has two pubs (public houses). Bellanagare () is a village in County Roscommon, Ireland. The N5 national primary road passes through it , though a by-pass is planned. The village is located between Tulsk and Frenchpark on the Dublin to Castlebar/ Westport road. Ballinlough, County Roscommon
Ballinlough ( ; ) is a village in western County Roscommon, Ireland. The N60 national secondary road passes through it. The village is between Ballyhaunis and Castlerea on the Roscommon to Castlebar road. As of the 2016 census, Ballinlough had a population of 300 people. Lake O'Flynn, which lies north of the village, is notable for brown trout fishing. The lake is also the source of the River Suck (which is a tributary of the River Shannon). In 2013, a bog walk was constructed around Lake O'Flynn, together with an outdoor gym.
