Castilleja Kraliana
''Castilleja kraliana'', is a species of flowering plant in the family Orobanchaceae known by the common names Cahaba paintbrush or Cahaba Indian paintbrush. Description This species has a fibrous root system along an erect, green stem that is pubescent and contains short-stalked glands. The stems are also solitary and may be branched from the mid-stem. Basal leaves are often purple in color, oblanceolate, and unlobed with flat margins. Cauline leaves range from linear to linear-lanceolate with 3-5 lobes. Flowers are attached at the base by a large, green bract. They are bright yellow towards the apex. Each flower contains four sepals that form a yellow tube at the tip and white or light green at the base. The corolla contains five yellow-green petals which form a tube. The fruit is a capsule containing many small seeds. Orobanchaceae
Orobanchaceae, the broomrapes, is a family of mostly parasitic plants of the order Lamiales, with about 90 genera and more than 2000 species. Many of these genera (e.g., ''Pedicularis'', ''Rhinanthus'', ''Striga'') were formerly included in the family Scrophulariaceae ''sensu lato''. With its new circumscription, Orobanchaceae forms a distinct, monophyletic family. From a phylogenetic perspective, it is defined as the largest crown clade containing '' Orobanche major'' and relatives, but neither ''Paulownia tomentosa'' nor ''Phryma leptostachya'' nor '' Mazus japonicus''. Bibb County, Alabama
Bibb County is a county in the central portion of the U.S. state of Alabama. The county is included in the ARC's definition of Appalachia. As of the 24th decennial 2020 census, its population was 22,293. The county seat is Centreville. The county is named in honor of William W. Bibb (1781–1820), the Governor of Alabama Territory (1817–1819) and the first Governor of Alabama (1819–1820, when he died). He is also the namesake for Bibb County, Georgia, where he began his political career. It is a "prohibition" or dry county; however, a few towns have become "wet" by allowing the sale of alcoholic beverages: Woodstock (December 2017), West Blocton (August 2012), Centreville (June 2010), and Brent (May 2010). Castilleja
''Castilleja'', commonly known as paintbrush, Indian paintbrush, or prairie-fire, is a genus of about 200 species of annual and perennial herbaceous plants native to the west of the Americas from Alaska south to the Andes, northern Asia, and one species as far west as the Kola Peninsula in northwestern Russia. These plants are classified in the broomrape family Orobanchaceae (following major rearrangements of the order Lamiales starting around 2001; sources which do not follow these reclassifications may place them in the Scrophulariaceae). They are hemiparasitic on the roots of grasses and forbs. The generic name honors Spanish botanist Domingo Castillejo.
