Cash For Keeps
Cash for Keeps is a Tennessee Walking Horse who won the World Grand Championship in the 2000 Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration. He returned to competition 6 years later and won Plantation Lite-Shod World Championships with both Ray Gilmer and Dr. Jeanne Morrison. Life and career Cash for Keeps is a chestnut stallion foaled in 1991. He was bred by Bonnie Cady, and was sired by the World Grand Champion Coin's Hard Cash, out of the mare Pride's Georgia Peach. His maternal grandsire was Harlinsdale Farm's notable sire Pride of Midnight. Cash for Keeps was purchased by the Harrell Brawner family of Wynne, Arkansas in 1994 and initially trained by Sammy Day. Ridden by Day, he won the four-year-old preliminary class in the 1995 Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration and followed up by winning the World Championship for that age division. Tennessee Walking Horse
The Tennessee Walking Horse or Tennessee Walker is a breed of gaited horse known for its unique four-beat running-walk and flashy movement. It was originally developed as a riding horse on farms and plantations in the American South. It is a popular riding horse due to its calm disposition, smooth gaits and sure-footedness. The Tennessee Walking Horse is often seen in the show ring, but is also popular as a pleasure and trail riding horse using both English and Western equipment. Tennessee Walkers are also seen in movies, television, and other entertainment. The breed was developed beginning in the late 18th century when Narragansett Pacers and Canadian Pacers from the eastern United States were crossed with gaited Spanish Mustangs from Texas. Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration
The Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration (TWHNC), sometimes known as the Celebration, is the largest horse show for the Tennessee Walking Horse breed, and has been held annually in or near Shelbyville, Tennessee since its inception in 1939. The Celebration was conceived by Henry Davis, a horse trainer who along with several other horsemen, felt the Shelbyville area should have a festival or annual event. Although the Celebration was originally held in Wartrace, Tennessee, it moved to Shelbyville, the seat of Bedford County, a few years later. The Celebration spans 11 days and nights in late August and early September annually, and finishes with the crowning of the World Grand Champion Tennessee Walker on the Saturday night before Labor Day. Chestnut (color)
Chestnut or castaneous is a colour, a medium reddish shade of brown (displayed right), and is named after the nut of the chestnut tree. An alternate name for the colour is badious. Indian red is a similar but separate and distinct colour from ''chestnut''. Chestnut is also a very dark tan that almost appears brown. Harlinsdale Farm
Harlinsdale Farm is a historic district in Franklin, Tennessee that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. It dates from c.1900 and had other significant dates in 1935 and 1945. Its main horse stable, the centerpiece of the property, was completed in 1935. Instead of traditional placement to the rear of the main house on the property, this stable is prominent in the property, set at the end of the drive in from the road, with its long axis parallel to the road. Several buildings on the property were modified in 1945. with (see photo captions pages 26-29 of text document) It includes Colonial Revival styling for four laborers' houses on the property. Pride Of Midnight
Pride of Midnight (1966-1979) was a Tennessee Walking Horse who had a short career as a show horse but became very notable as a sire in his breed. Life Pride of Midnight was foaled in 1966. He was a black stallion with a snip of white on his nose. He was sired by the two-time World Grand Champion Midnight Sun and out of the mare Pride of Stanley. His paternal grandsire was Wilson's Allen, and his great-grandsire was the foundation stallion Roan Allen. He was bred and owned by Harlinsdale Farm. Pride of Midnight was trained by Dot Warren and won first in several horse shows, but was retired to breeding at a young age. He became one of the most notable sires in the Tennessee Walking Horse industry. He died in 1979, after colicking twice.
