Case Of The Naves Brothers
''Case of the Naves Brothers'' ( pt, O Caso dos Irmãos Naves) is a 1967 Brazilian drama film directed by Luis Sérgio Person. Based on a book by João Alamy Filho, the Naves brothers' lawyer, it tells the story of Joaquim and Sebastião Naves, who were arrested during the Estado Novo dictatorship and after being tortured confessed to a crime they did not commit. It was entered into the 5th Moscow International Film Festival. Luis Sérgio Person
Luis Sérgio Person (12 February 1936 – 7 January 1976) was a Brazilian actor, director, screenwriter and producer. Person was born in São Paulo and is best known for his 1967 film, ''Case of the Naves Brothers'', which was entered into the 5th Moscow International Film Festival. In 2007, his daughter Marina Person released the documentary ''Person'' about his life. This is a list of submissions to the 40th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 40th Academy Awards, sixteen films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Belgium and Peru submitted films to the competition for the first time. Brazil has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1960. The award is handed out annually by the United States-based Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature length motion picture produced outside the U.S. that contains primarily non-English language dialogue. Lélia Abramo
Lélia Abramo (February 8, 1911 – April 9, 2004) was an Italian-Brazilian actress and political activist. Biography Daughter of Italian immigrants, Abramo was born and died in São Paulo, but lived in Italy from 1938 to 1950, suffering through the privations of World War II. Along with her brothers Cláudio Abramo and plastic artist Lívio Abramo she is part of one of the most prominent families in Brazilian history in both politics and the arts.
