George Washington Carver School (Coral Gables, Florida)
George Washington Carver School is a public school in Coral Gables, Florida. Now a middle school, it was once a K-12, segregated, black school. It is part of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools district. History The school opened in 1899 as a black school, for black students residing in Dade County, although it traces its beginning to an earlier private school for black children, informally known as "The Little Schoolhouse," which opened in 1899 as the private Dade Training School. In 1943, when he died, the school was renamed for George Washington Carver. Carver was desegregated by a court order in 1966-1967. Henry County Public Schools operates 14 schools - two high schools, two middle schools, and ten elementary schools - a community learning center, and a regional alternative program. HCPS operates preschool programs at ten elementary schools. History According to a thesis written by Eugene Carol Hoover in 1939 a Dr. J.M. Smith who was superintendent of the county schools from 1876 to 1885 wrote a history of education in the county, in which he said prior to 1850 Henry County virtually had no school history worth reporting. From 1846 to 1851, there was a brief experiment in Henry County with district free schools, which led to a violent political upheaval and culminated in abandonment of the experiment. According to Jean Hairston the first superintendent of Schools in Henry County was Mr. Greenberry T. Griggs who served from 1870 to 1876. Carver High School (Massachusetts)
Carver Middle High School is a public school located in Carver, Massachusetts, United States. This school was formerly two different schools, Carver Middle School (6–8) and Carver High School (9–12) in one building with both schools sharing the library and auditorium. The school became under one principal in 2008–09 school year. This school became officially Carver Middle High School the following school year. It is located at 60 South Meadow Rd. and has an enrollment of 489 students in grades 6–8, and 537 students in grades 9–12. The school's mascot is the Crusaders and the school colors are Maroon and Silver/Gray. The principal is Mr. Michael Schultz.
