Nominate reports, also known as nominative reports, named reports and private reports, is a legal term from common-law jurisdictions referring to the various published collections of reports of English cases in various courts from the Middle Ages to the 1860s, when law reporting was officially taken over by the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting, for example Edmund F. Moore's ''Reports of Cases Heard and Determined by the Judicial Committee and the Lords of His Majesty's most Honourable Privy Council on Appeal from the Supreme and Sudder Dewanny Courts in the East Indies'' published in London from 1837 to 1873, referred to as '' Moore's Indian Appeals'' and cited for example as: ''Moofti Mohummud Ubdoollah'' v. John Gage Marvin
John Gage Marvin (1815–1855) was an American lawyer, known as a legal bibliographer and figure of the history of California. Early life He was born at Le Raysville, Pennsylvania, and was educated at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. He then taught at Athens Academy, Athens, Pennsylvania from 1840.Michael H. Hoeflich, ''Annals of Legal Bibliography: J. G. Marvin'', Law Library Journal (2004) vol. 96PDF. Three of his brothers attended the school, and a fourth worked the farm at Le Raysville. In 1842 Marvin enrolled at Harvard Law School, from an address given as Towanda, Pennsylvania, and was there for four years, studying under Simon Greenleaf, Joseph Story and Charles Sumner. He graduated LL.B. in 1846, having served as Librarian. ''Joel v Morison'' [1834EWHC KB J39is a case in English tort law concerning the scope of vicarious liability of an employer for the acts of his employee. Facts Joel was struck down by a horse and cart driven by Morison's agency (law), agent. Joel was crossing a street in the City of London, but the driver's job was simply to travel between Burton Crescent Mews and Finchley. The driver had detoured to visit a friend when the accident occurred. Morison argued that he was not liable for Joel's injuries because the agent had strayed off his path. Judgment Parke, B held: The doctrine of respondeat superior meant the principal is liable for his agent's negligence only when the agent is acting at the time of the accident in the "course of his employment". Although the agent was doing Morison's business, he went, albeit momentarily, out of his way against his master's implied command. Morison was found liable. The Free Access to Law Movement (FALM) is the international movement and organization devoted to providing free online access to legal information such as case law, legislation, treaties, law reform proposals and legal scholarship. The movement began in 1992 with the creation of the Legal Information Institute (LII) by Thomas R. Bruce and Peter W. Martin at Cornell Law School.
