Carrillo Family Of California
The Carrillo family is a prominent Californio family of Southern California. Members of the family held extensive rancho grants and numerous important political positions, including Governor of Alta California, Mayor of Los Angeles, Mayor of Santa Barbara, Mayor of Santa Monica, and a signer of the Californian Constitution. Notable members José Raimundo Carrillo The family was founded by José Raimundo Carrillo, one of the first settlers of San Diego. José Raimundo was born in Loreto, Baja California in 1749 and came to Alta California with the Portolà expedition in 1769. He served as Commandante of the Presidio of San Diego from 1807 to 1809. Juan José Carrillo
Juan José Carrillo (September 8, 1842 – March 30, 1916) was a Californio politician and judge, who served as Mayor of Santa Monica and as the last City Marshal of Los Angeles. Biography Carrillo was born in Santa Barbara to Pedro Carlos Antonio Carrillo (1818–1888) and Maria Josefa Bandini (1823–1896). He was a member of the Carrillo family of California, a prominent Californio family. His mother was one of three Bandini sisters; Maria Josefa, Ysidora, and Arcadia. His grandfather Carlos Antonio Carrillo (1783–1852) was Governor of Alta California from 1837 to 1838. The California Constitutional Conventions were two separate constitutional conventions that took place in California during the nineteenth century which led to the creation of the modern Constitution of California. The first, known as the 1849 Constitutional Convention of Monterey, held in September and October 1849 in advance of California attaining U.S. statehood the following year, adopted the state's original constitution. José Antonio Carrillo
Captain José Antonio Ezequiel Carrillo (1796–1862) was a Californio politician, ranchero, and signer of the Californian Constitution in 1849. He served three terms as Alcalde of Los Angeles (mayor). Juan Bautista Valentín Alvarado y Vallejo (February 14, 1809 – July 13, 1882) was a Californio politician that served as Governor of Alta California from 1837-42. Prior to his term as governor, Alvarado briefly led a movement for independence of Alta California from 1836-37, in which he successfully deposed interim governor Nicolás Gutiérrez, declared independence, and created a new flag and constitution, before negotiating an agreement with the Mexican government resulting in his recognition as governor and the end of the independence movement. Manuel Micheltorena
Joseph Manuel María Joaquin Micheltorena y Llano (8 June 1804 – 7 September 1853) was a brigadier general of the Mexican Army, adjutant-general of the same, governor, commandant-general and inspector of the department of Las Californias, then within Mexico. Micheltorena was the last non-Californian Mexican governor before Californian native son Pío Pico took office. Personal life Micheltorena was born in 1804 in Oaxaca de Juárez, Oaxaca, Mexico, into a prominent Basque family.
