Carnegie Mellon School Of Art
The Carnegie Mellon School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a degree-granting institution and a division of the Carnegie Mellon College of Fine Arts. The School of Art was preceded by the School of Applied Design, founded in 1906. In 1967, the School of Art (then known as the Department of Painting & Sculpture) separated from the School of Design and became devoted to visual fine arts. The School of Art grants a four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a three-year interdisciplinary Master of Fine Arts degree. It has more than 200 undergraduate students and 18 graduate students. In 2016 U.S. News & World Report ranked the graduate program first in time-based & new media art, and sixth overall. Pittsburgh Filmmakers
Pittsburgh Filmmakers was one of the oldest and largest media arts centers in the United States, operating from 1971 to 2019. The non-profit institution in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania began as a filmmaking equipment access cooperative founded by curator Sally Dixon in 1971. The co-op remained a pillar of the organization throughout its life, supporting projects that grew to include a NASAD-accredited film school, the Three Rivers Film Festival, and three repertory theaters—most prominently the Harris Theater, which remains in operation under the management of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Mel Bochner
Mel Bochner (born 1940) is an American conceptual artist. Bochner received his BFA in 1962 and honorary Doctor of Fine Arts in 2005 from the School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University. He lives in New York City. Life Bochner was born in Pittsburgh in 1940. Charlie White (artist)
Charlie White (born 1972 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American artist and academic. White received his BFA in 1994 from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and received his MFA from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, in 1998. He held the position of professor at the Roski School of Art and Design at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles from 2003 to 2016. Angela Washko is an American new media artist and facilitator based in New York. She is currently Associate Professor of Art at Carnegie Mellon University. Washko mobilizes communities and creates new forums for discussions of feminism where they do not exist. Washko is the founder of the Council on Gender Sensitivity and Behavioral Awareness in World of Warcraft to bring attention to and protest the sexist language from players in the game. The Center for PostNatural History is a storefront museum in Pittsburgh's Garfield neighborhood. In contrast to typical natural history museums, it is focused on the collection and exposition of organisms that have been intentionally and heritably altered by humans by means including selective breeding or genetic engineering, a phenomenon referred to as the postnatural. Paolo Pedercini (born 1981) is an Italian game designer known for making Flash videogames based on provocative left-wing socio-political points of view, on topics such as labour market flexibility and Queer theory, in explicit opposition with the mainstream video game industry. He is also known under the pseudonym Molleindustria, the name of his website. He is known for games such as ''Queer Power'', '' Faith Fighter'' and the '' McDonald's Video Game''. Devan Shimoyama (born 1989 in Philadelphia) is a contemporary African-American visual artist best known as a painter that uses mixed mediums in their work. Shimoyama's work is inspired by Black, queer, and male bodies from a personal perspective. The exploration of mythology and folklore also plays a key role in Shimoyama's work. Shimoyama uses his work to examine the intersections of race, class, gender, and sexuality within everyday life. James Duesing
James Duesing (born 1958) is an American animator and educator. He has worked in many forms of animation, from traditional hand drawn and early digital work to 3D and motion capture projects. His 1990 animation Maxwell's Demon is considered one of the earliest examples of creative use of desktop computing for animation production. Duesing has taught at The University of Cincinnati, College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning and is a professor at Carnegie Mellon University. Jon Rubin is a contemporary artist based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a professor at Carnegie Mellon University. Projects Fruit and Other Things ''Fruit and Other Things'' (2018-2019) is a project created in collaboration with artist Lenka Clayton commissioned by the Carnegie Museum of Art for the 2018 iteration of the Carnegie International. The project pulls from the specific context and history of the Carnegie International, which in its earliest years, selected artworks for its exhibitions from an international competition.
