''Carmen & Lola'' ( es, Carmen y Lola, links=no) is a 2018 Spanish drama film directed by Arantxa Echevarría which stars Zaira Romero and Rosy Rodríguez alongside Moreno Borja, Rafaela León and Carolina Yuste. It was selected to screen in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Plot Carmen lives in a Romani community in the suburbs of Madrid. Like every other woman she has ever met, she is destined to live a life that is repeated generation after generation: getting married and raising as many children as possible. But one day she meets Lola, an uncommon Romani woman who dreams about going to university and draws bird graffiti. Carmen quickly develops an understanding with Lola who's shy, independent and likes girls. They discover a world that, inevitably, leads them to be rejected by their families. Arantxa Echevarría
Arantxa Echevarría Carcedo (born 1968) is a Spanish filmmaker and television producer. Biography Arantxa Echevarría Carcedo was born in 1968 in Bilbao. She studied a degree in Sciences of the Image and a specialization in audiovisual production at the Complutense University of Madrid, and pursued further studies at Sydney Community College. She has worked in cinema and television since 1991. Her short film ''De noche y de pronto'' earned a nomination to the Goya Award for Best Fictional Short Film. Her feature debut ''Carmen & Lola'' (2018) earned her the Goya Award for Best New Director, past her fifties. It was followed by her second feature '' The Perfect Family'' (2021). The 33rd Goya Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AACCE), honored the best in Spanish films of 2018 and took place at the Conference and Exhibition Centre of Seville on 2 February 2019. Grupo Zeta is a Spanish media conglomerate which owns several newspapers and magazines. Founded by Antonio Asensio in 1976, it launched the magazines ''Interviú'' and ''Tiempo'' before its most successful title, the daily newspaper ''El Periódico de Catalunya''.
