Carlos García García (born 13 August 1970) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a central defender or a defensive midfielder. He spent most of his professional career with Athletic Bilbao, appearing in 264 competitive matches over 11 years and scoring 25 goals. Club career Born in Durango, Biscay, García joined Athletic Bilbao in 1992 from Basque neighbours Sestao Sport Club in the Segunda División. He made his La Liga debut on 6 September, in a 2–1 home win against Cádiz CF where he came on as a late substitute. He finished his first season with 28 official games and three goals, helping the team to the eighth position in the league. Durango, Spain
Durango is a town and municipality of the historical territory and province of Biscay, located in the Basque Country, Spain. It is the main town of Durangaldea, one of the ''comarcas'' of Biscay. Because of its economical activities and population, Durango is considered one of the largest towns in Biscay after the ones that compose the conurbation of Greater Bilbao. In association football, a substitute is a player who is brought on to the pitch during a match in exchange for an existing player. Substitutions are generally made to replace a player who has become tired or injured, or who is performing poorly, or for tactical reasons (such as bringing a striker on in place of a defender). A player who has been substituted during a match takes no further part in the game, in games played under the standard International Football Association Board Laws of the Game. A midfielder is an outfield position in association football. Midfielders may play an exclusively defensive role, breaking up attacks, and are in that case known as defensive midfielders.
