Carlos Calderón (Ecuadorian Footballer)
Carlos Manuel Calderón Jaramillo (born 2 January 1959) is an Ecuadorian football manager and former player who played as a defender. Playing career Born in Cayambe, Calderón began his career with América de Quito at the age of 17. He subsequently represented Aucas, Filanbanco, Universidad Católica del Ecuador, Deportivo Cuenca, Macará and Rocafuerte. He also played for the Ecuador national team in the 1980s. Coaching career After retiring, Calderón became a manager and led Deportivo Saquisilí to the Serie B in 1999. He was an assistant manager at ESPOLI before being named manager of the side for the 2005 season, and led the club back to the Serie A at the end of the campaign. Sacked by ESPOLI on 29 May 2006, Calderón took over Deportivo Quevedo in August. He then returned to ESPOLI for the 2007 season, leaving after four matches and taking over LDU Loja in April. Cayambe, Ecuador
Cayambe is an agricultural service city (population 39,028 at the last census on November 28, 2010) in highland Ecuador. It lies at the foot of the Cayambe volcano. While the city is mainly peopled by mestizos, the surrounding rural population is primarily composed of indigenous people who are mainly involved in subsistence agriculture, dairy farming and procurement of lumber. It is the third-largest city in Pichincha Province. History Cayambe's indigenous people of today are descendants of the pre-Inca Kayambi people. The Kayambi were resistant to Inca expansion and were only definitively conquered by Huayna Capac (the eleventh Sapa Inca of the Inca Empire) after a bloody 20-year war. At that time, the Kayambi people adopted the Kichwa language, a dialect of the Quechua family of languages. Ecuadorian Serie A
The Liga Pro Betcris, simply known as the Liga Pro, or the Serie A, is a professional football league in Ecuador. At the top of the Ecuadorian football league system, it is the country's premier football competition. Contested by sixteen clubs, it operates a system of promotion and relegation with the Serie B, the lower level of the Primera Categoría. The season runs from February to December and is usually contested in multiple stages. The main sponsor is Betcris and it is known as Liga Pro Betcris. While initially not a league, the Serie A has its roots in the national championship between the top teams of Ecuador's two regional leagues.
