Carl Reinhardt
Carl August Reinhardt (also referred to as Karl Reinhardt; born 25. April 1818 in Leipzig, Germany; died 11. August 1877 in Radebeul, Germany) was a German author, painter, graphic artist, and caricaturist. Life Reinhardt studied art in Leipzig, Dresden, and Munich, under the tutelage of Johan Christian Dahl and Albert Zimmermann, among others. During the 1840s and 1850s, he lived a bohemian wandering life as a landscape painter, author, and caricaturist. During this time, he contributed to the well-known magazines ''Kladderadatsch'', ''Die Gartenlaube'', and ''Illustrirte Zeitung''. In 1848, Reinhardt contributed to the ''Fliegende Blätter'', in an issue titled "Meister Lapp and his apprentice Pips." The original issue was incomplete, and a complete version appeared in an 1851 book version published by Braun & Schneider. Friedrich Gerstäcker
Friedrich Gerstäcker (May 10, 1816 in Hamburg – May 31, 1872 in Braunschweig) was a German traveler and novelist. Biography He was the son of Friedrich Gerstäcker (1790–1825), a celebrated opera singer. After being apprenticed to a commercial house, he learned farming in Saxony. In 1837, however, just younger than 21 and having imbibed from Robinson Crusoe a taste for adventure, he went to America and wandered over a large part of the United States, supporting himself by whatever work came to hand. He became fireman on a steamboat, deck hand, farmer, silversmith, and merchant. After wandering through most of the United States, spending some time as a hunter and trapper in the Indian territory, and in 1842 keeping a hotel at Point Coupée, Louisiana, he returned to Germany six adventurous years later in 1843. Hyacinth Holland
Hyacinth Holland (16 August 1827 – 16 January 1918) was a German art and literature historian. Life Born in Munich, Holland was a son of the lawyer Christoph Holland and his wife Karoline Seel. In 1846 he passed the Abitur at the Wilhelmsgymnasium München. At the Universität of his hometown, Holland began to study Catholic theology, but later switched to law and medicine. He successfully completed his studies in art and literary history in 1853 at the University of Würzburg with a doctorate.
