Bobo Olson
Carl Olson (July 11, 1928 – January 16, 2002) was an American boxer. He was the World Middleweight champion between October 1953 and December 1955, the longest reign of any champion in that division during the 1950s. His nickname, Bobo, was based on his younger sister's mispronunciation of "brother". Early years Olson was born in Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii to a Portuguese mother and a Swedish father, hence his other nickname "The Hawaiian Swede". Like many boxers, Olson decided to take up the sport after getting into fights on the streets. Olson received training from boxers who were stationed in Hawaii during World War II, and it was during this period that he picked up his two trademark tattoos. Using a fake identity card Olson obtained a boxing license at the age of 16. His earliest fights were in his native Kalihi, Hawaii. Carl Olson is an American Top Fuel Dragster driver. Career 1969 Olson entered the 1969 NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California, but failed to qualify. 1970 At the 1970 Winternationals, Olson qualified #4, but was eliminated in round two by #12 qualifier JIm Davis. 1971 Olson qualified #30 at the 1971 Winternationals. He was eliminated in the quarter-final by Don Garlits. He also entered the 1971 AHRA Winter Nationals at Beeline Dragway in Scottsdale, Arizona. He qualified #15, and lost in the semi-final to Chris "the Greek" Karamesines. The semi-final finish paid Olson US$400. He also entered the 1971 NHRA U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park in Clermont, Indiana, where he was #3 qualifier, and lost in the sei-final to top qualifier Garlits in '' Swamp Rat 14''. Carl Marcus Olson (1911 – May 16, 2011) has been credited as the discoverer of the process to make silicon pure. Early life Carl Marcus Olson was born in 1911, to Swedish immigrants in Chicago. His father, Dr. Oscar N. Olson, a clergyman, and his mother, Wilhelmina Peterson Olson raised him and his older sister Heloise in Sioux City, IA, and Rock Island, IL. He graduated from Rock Island High School and Augustana College, IL. After graduating from Augustana in 1932, he went to the University of Chicago for his Ph.D. Professional life Dr. Olson was recruited to work for the DuPont Company in Baltimore, MD, at the Krebs Pigment and Color plant as a chemist/physicist for work on the white pigment titanium dioxide. Karl Arthur Olson (July 6, 1930 – December 25, 2010) of Kentfield, California, was a backup outfielder in Major League Baseball who played for the Boston Red Sox (1951, 1953–55), Washington Senators (1956–57) and Detroit Tigers (1957). He batted and threw right-handed, stood tall and weighed during his nine year professional baseball career. In all or parts of six MLB seasons, Olson was a .235 hitter with 160 hits, 25 doubles, six triples, six home runs and 50 RBI in 279 games played. Olson missed the 1952 season due to service in the Korean War. Olson was an all-star player for Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, California, where he graduated in 1948.
