Cardiff Cobras
The Cardiff Cobras are a rugby league club that plays in the Newcastle & Hunter Rugby League competition. Cardiff last won the A Grade Championship in 2014, defeating rivals Windale Eagles 24–20 at Kurri Kurri Sportsground. History Although Cardiff had been represented in Rugby League as far back as 1911, the Cardiff RFLC was formed 12 February 1930. People present at the foundation meeting were A H Geikhe, D Smith, C Williams and Mr Clarke, who held the meeting at his house. It was decided to enter a team in the Newcastle Rugby League third-grade competition along with an under 20s team. Cardiff has cone a long way since its early days and has produced plenty of good Rugby League players including Jason Alchin, Mark Brokenshire, Rodney Howe, Ashley Gordon and many more. Cardiff is a small town in the Lake Macquarie LGA of New South Wales, Australia. It is located west-southwest of Newcastle. Newcastle & Hunter Rugby League
Newcastle & Hunter Community Rugby League is the governing body of second tier rugby league in the Newcastle and Hunter region. Formed in 2006 after a merger between the Maitland & Coalfields Rugby League and Lower Hunter Rugby League Competitions. It is now the largest senior Rugby League competition in the world. Newcastle & Hunter Rugby League competitions consists of five senior men's divisions, A Grade, B Grade, C Grade, Northern Conference & Southern Conference, as well as two Ladies League Tag divisions and Ladies Tackle. Currently there are over 50 men's teams, as well as 18 Ladies League Tag teams and 8 Ladies Tackle teams. Windale Eagles
Windale is a suburb of the city of Lake Macquarie, in the Newcastle metropolitan area. It is located west of the junction of the Pacific Highway and Newcastle Inner City Bypass, covering an area of . Windale is a lower socio-economic area consisting largely of public housing homes, and has historically been known for its high rates of alcoholism, crime and unemployment, however recent local government efforts to regenerate the area have been somewhat successful. Newcastle Rugby League
The Newcastle Rugby League is a local rugby league football competition in Newcastle, Australia. It is one of the oldest rugby league competitions in Australia, founded in 1910. A Newcastle representative team was also assembled from players in the League during most of the 20th century. The first grade competition also comprises the NSWRL Presidents Cup Northern Conference. History A Newcastle team competed in the inaugural New South Wales Rugby League premiership of 1908 but withdrew after the 1909 season to form the local competition. The four original teams were Central Newcastle (Blue & White), Northern Suburbs (Light & Dark Blue vertical stripes), South Newcastle (Red & White) and Western Suburbs (Red & Green). Jason Alchin
Jason Andrew Alchin (born 17 March 1967) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who primarily played as a halfback. He played for Canterbury-Bankstown, St. George and Western Suburbs in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Background Alchin was born in Newcastle, New South Wales. He was selected for Australian schoolboys rugby league team while attending Toormina High School. Playing career Alchin made his first grade debut for Canterbury against Balmain in round 18 1985. Alchin did not feature in Canterbury's premiership winning team of that year. In 1986, Alchin only made 3 appearances and did not play in the club's grand final loss to Parramatta. In 1988, Alchin played in Canterbury's premiership winning side which defeated Balmain in the grand final which was played at the Sydney Football Stadium. Rodney Howe (born 31 January 1973) is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. He played in the forwards for the Newcastle Knights, Western Reds, Melbourne Storm, New South Wales and for the Australian national side. Early life Born in Newcastle, New South Wales. Howe was educated at St Francis Xavier's College, Hamilton, where he represented 1990 Australian Schoolboys. Career In 1998 Howe was banned for 22 matches for using stanozolol.
