Caravan (TV Series)
''Caravan'' is a Canadian children's television series which aired on CBC Television from 1960 to 1962. Premise This bilingual series featured a set that resembled a two-ring circus and recorded before an audience of approximately 700. Ringmaster Monsieur Loyal (Guy Mauffette) presented various circus acts such as animals, lion tamers and trapeze performers. Two clowns (Guy L'Ecuyer, Giani Scarpi) were also series regulars. Production The Montreal-produced ''Caravan'' occasionally recorded episodes in other communities in Ontario, Quebec and in 1962 the Atlantic. Scheduling This hour-long series was broadcast on Fridays on CBC's English network at 4:30 p.m. (Eastern) for three seasons, each from early July to September. CBC Television (also known as CBC TV) is a Canadian English-language broadcast television network owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the national public broadcaster. Lion Taming
Lion taming is the taming and training of lions, either for protection or for use in entertainment, such as the circus. The term often applies to the taming and display of lions and other big cats such as tigers, leopards, jaguars, black panthers, cheetahs, and cougars. People often use lion taming as a metaphor for any dangerous activity. Lion taming occurs in zoos around the world to enable the keepers to carry out medical procedures and feedings. Trapeze
A trapeze is a short horizontal bar hung by ropes or metal straps from a ceiling support. It is an aerial apparatus commonly found in circus performances. Trapeze acts may be static, spinning (rigged from a single point), swinging or flying, and may be performed solo, double, triple or as a group act. The name of the apparatus reflects the trapezoid shape made by the horizontal bar, ropes and ceiling support. History The art of trapeze performance is reported to have been developed by Jules Léotard, a young French acrobat and aerialist, in Toulouse in the mid-1800s. He is said to have used his father's swimming pool to practice. However, the name "trapeze" can be found in books dating as far back as twenty years earlier, before Léotard was born. Queen's University at Kingston, commonly known as Queen's University or simply Queen's, is a public research university in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Queen's holds more than of land throughout Ontario and owns Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, England. Queen's is organized into eight faculties and schools. The Church of Scotland established Queen's College in October 1841 via a royal charter from Queen Victoria.
