The canton of Vaison-la-Romaine is a French administrative division in the department of Vaucluse and region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Vaison-la-Romaine
Vaison-la-Romaine (; oc, Vaison) is a town in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. Vaison-la-Romaine is famous for its rich Roman ruins and mediaeval town and cathedral. It is also unusual in the way the antique, mediaeval and modern towns spanning 2,000 years of history lie close together. The old town is split into two parts: the "upper city" or ''Colline du Château'' on a hill on one side of the Ouvèze, and on the opposite bank, the "lower city" centred on the ''Colline de la Villasse''. With four theatres and numerous exhibitions and galleries, Vaison-la-Romaine is also renowned for its art scene. Many writers, painters and actors live in the area. History The area was inhabited in the Bronze Age. At the end of the fourth century BC Vaison became the capital of a Celtic tribe, the Vocontii, centred on the oppidum in the upper city. Saint-Roman-de-Malegarde (; oc, Sant Roman de Malagarda) is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. Geography On the edge of the Vaucluse, looking onto the border with the Drôme and dozing between Bollène and Vaison-la-Romaine, Saint-Romain-de-Malegarde is a former outpost of the order of the Knights Templar, built on the left bank of the Aygues on the northern border of the Comtat Venaissin. Features The top of the old village is built on a hill, where the streets are steep and narrow. The bottom of the village has absorbed new buildings such as the school and the ''mairie'' (town hall). Its parish church in the centre of the village dates back to the 13th century. Its façade is decorated with an 18th-century sundial and a Maltese cross. Sablet
Sablet () is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. It is a fortified Provençal village rich in history. Population Geography Sablet is situated at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail in the Côtes du Rhône wine-producing region. It is located to the west of Mont Ventoux, in a transition zone between the Prealps and the Mediterranean. Sablet is very close to the larger towns of Vaison-la-Romaine to the north, Carpentras to the south and Orange to the west, with the much larger regional center of Avignon 30 minutes away.
