The canton of Lumbres () is a canton situated in the department of the Pas-de-Calais and in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France. The canton is organised around the town Lumbres. Lumbres
Lumbres (; ) is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Geography Lumbres is an industrial town built on former marshes at the crossroads of the valleys of the rivers Aa and Bléquin, some 6 miles (10 km) southwest of Saint-Omer, at the junction of the D342 and D225 road. The commune is now by-passed by the N42. The landscape is marred by the vast quarries and the huge chimney of the cement works. Population History Evidence of prehistoric occupation, at the place known as the ''Montagne de Lumbres'' has been discovered by. Pontier and Canon Collet, of the abbey of Wisques, who were the first to study the prehistory of the area, including Arques, Elnes and Wavrans. Because of its industrial importance, and proximity to fortified V2 sites, the commune suffered heavily from Allied bombing during World War II. Clerques
Clerques (; ) is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Geography A small farming village situated 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Saint-Omer, on the D217 road, nestled in the valley of the river Hem at the foot of the Boulonnais, which is a wooded ridge at this point. Two hamlets, Audenfort to the west and Le Hamel to the East, make up the remainder of the commune. Population History The recent history of the village was marked by the flooding of the river, on August 13, 2006. The stone bridge in the village centre, built in 1862, was destroyed after exceptional rainfall upstream at Licques. The river, usually quiet, had accumulated such a speed it turned into an uncontrollable torrent.
