Canton Of Doué-en-Anjou
The canton of Doué-en-Anjou (before March 2020: ''canton of Doué-la-Fontaine'') is an administrative division of the Maine-et-Loire department, in western France. It was created at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Doué-en-Anjou. Cantons Of France
The cantons of France are territorial subdivisions of the France, French Republic's Departments of France, departments and Arrondissements of France, arrondissements. Apart from their role as organizational units in relation to certain aspects of the administration of public services and justice, the chief purpose of the cantons today is to serve as Constituency, constituencies for the election of members of the representative assemblies established in each of France's territorial departments (Departmental council (France), departmental councils, formerly general councils). For this reason, such elections were known in France as "cantonal elections", until 2015 when their name was changed to "departmental elections" to match the departmental councils' name. Le Puy-Notre-Dame
Le Puy-Notre-Dame () or Le Puy is a commune in the Maine-et-Loire department in western France. The village is built on the hill of Puy, also spelt “Pua”. Its inhabitants are known as ''Puechens''. History Protohistoric traces have been found. Le Puy (''Podio beatae Mariae'' in the 7th century had become known as ''Puy-la-Montagne'' by 1793 and the hill of Puy as ''Mary's Mountain''. William 9th, Duke of Aquitaine is reputed to have brought back a waistband of the Virgin Mary from the Crusades and deposited it in the church. His granddaughter Eleanor of Aquitaine founded a collegial church to honour the relic which, according to legend, facilitated pregnancies and male offspring. Louis XI founded a chapter about 1480 and this became a site of pilgrimage the Sunday after 8 September, the Nativity. The relic can still be viewed here. Montreuil-Bellay
Montreuil-Bellay () is a commune in the Maine-et-Loire department in western France. It is located approximately 15 km to the south of Saumur, and is famous for the Château de Montreuil-Bellay, which is situated in the town. Montreuil-Bellay is on the Thouet, and was the head of navigation until navigation ceased at the beginning of the 20th century. The navigation works were undertaken in the 15th century by the lords of Montreuil-Bellay, who in turn were granted letters patent by King Charles VII allowing them to raise a tax on wine that would pass through their land. Montreuil-Bellay station has rail connections to Tours, Saumur, Bressuire and La Roche-sur-Yon. The municipality was established on 1 January 2016 by merger the former communes of Gennes, Chênehutte-Trèves-Cunault, Grézillé, Saint-Georges-des-Sept-Voies and Le Thoureil.
