Canoeing At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's Slalom C-1
The men's canoe slalom C-1 competition at the 2012 Olympic Games in London took place between 29 and 31 July at the Lee Valley White Water Centre. Seventeen canoeists from 17 nations competed. The gold medal was won by Tony Estanguet of France. Competition format In the heats, each competitor had two runs; the 12 athletes with the best time qualified for the semi-finals. Each semi-final consisted of one run each and the best eight competitors qualified for the final. The final consisted of one additional run and the medal placings were decided on the score from that run. Lee Valley White Water Centre
Lee Valley White Water Centre (previously known as Broxbourne White Water Canoe Centre) is a white-water slalom centre, that was constructed to host the whitewater slalom, canoe slalom events of the 2012 Summer Olympics, London 2012 Olympic Games. On 9 December 2010, Anne, Princess Royal officially opened the venue which is owned by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and was orginally managed by them as well, but since April 1st 2022, is now managed by Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) under its "Better" brand. The £31 million ($50 million US) project to construct the centre finished on schedule and was the first newly constructed Olympic venue to be completed. Takuya Haneda
is a Japanese male slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2002. He won a bronze medal in the C1 event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, becoming the first Asian canoeist to win an Olympic medal. He also won a gold medal in the C1 event at the 2014 Asian Games. Haneda participated in four Olympic Games. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing he was eliminated in the qualifying round of the C1 event finishing in 14th place. Teng Zhiqiang (; born October 26, 1991 in Gaocun, Mayang, Hunan) is a Chinese male slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 2005 to 2013. David Florence
David Florence (born 8 August 1982) is a retired British slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1999 to 2021. He is the 2013 and 2015 world champion in individual single canoe (C1) and 2013 champion in double canoe (C2), the latter with Richard Hounslow. Florence was the first canoeist since Charles Dussuet, sixty years earlier, to achieve the C1, C2 double at the same World Championships. Florence won silver medals at three consecutive Olympics: in the C1 in 2008 and in the C2 in 2012 and 2016 (with Richard Hounslow). He announced his retirement from the sport in May 2022.
