These are the results of the women's K-1 slalom competition in canoeing at the 2004 Summer Olympics. The K-1 (kayak single) event is raced by one-man kayak A kayak is a small, narrow watercraft which is typically propelled by means of a double-bladed paddle. The venue for the 2004 Olympic competition was the ''Olympic Canoe/Kayak Slalom Centre'' at the Helliniko Olympic Complex. Medalists Results The 19 competitors each took two preliminary runs through the whitewater slalom course. The top 15 kayakers by combined time from the two runs advanced to the semifinal. Canoe slalom (previously known as whitewater slalom) is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a Spraydeck, decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on Whitewater, river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of the two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. The other Olympic canoeing discipline is canoe racing, canoe sprint. Wildwater canoeing is a non-Olympic paddlesport. Maria Cristina Giai Pron (born 21 August 1974 in Turin) is an Italian slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1989 to 2010. Canoeing At The 2004 Summer Olympics
Canoeing at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held at the Schinias Olympic Rowing and Canoeing Centre for the sprint events and the Olympic Canoe/Kayak Slalom Centre at the Helliniko Olympic Complex for the canoe and kayak slalom disciplines.
