Canoeing At The 2004 Summer Olympics – Men's C-2 1000 Metres
These are the results of the men's C-2 1000 metres competition in canoeing at the 2004 Summer Olympics. The C-2 event is raced by two-man sprint canoes. Medalists Heats The 14 teams first raced in two heats. The top three finishers from each of the heats advanced directly to the final, and the remaining 8 teams moved on to the semifinal. The heats were raced on August 23, 2004. Semifinal The top three finishers in the semifinal advanced to the final, joining the six teams who had moved directly from the heats. Canoeing At The 2004 Summer Olympics
Canoeing at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held at the Schinias Olympic Rowing and Canoeing Centre for the sprint events and the Olympic Canoe/Kayak Slalom Centre at the Helliniko Olympic Complex for the canoe and kayak slalom disciplines. A total of 16 events were contested, 12 sprint events (9 for men and 3 for women) and 4 slalom events (3 for men and 1 for women). Richard Dalton (canoeist)
Richard Dalton (born 27 August 1979) is an Ireland, Irish-born, Canadians, Canadian canoe racing, sprint canoeist. He has won three bronze medals at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships (C-1 200 m: 2010 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, 2010 - tied with Ukraine's Yuriy Cheban, C-1 1000 m: 2005 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, 2005, C-2 1000 m: 2002 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, 2002). He also won a C-2 silver medal at the 2000 world marathon championships in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The distance at a marathon event varies between 36 and 40 km. Maksym Prokopenko
Maksym Serhiyovych Prokopenko (Максим Сергійович Прокопенко; born March 23, 1984, in Vilshanka, Kirovohrad Oblast) is a Ukrainian-born Azerbaijani sprint canoeist who has competed since 2002. Competing for Ukraine, Prokopenko was the Canadian canoe C-1 500 m silver medallist at the 2002 Junior European Championships in Zagreb. He won a bronze medal in the C-2 1000 m event at the 2006 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Szeged. He also competed in two Summer Olympics for Ukraine, earning his best finish of eighth in the C-2 500 m event at Beijing in 2008. Prokopenko moved to Azerbaijan after the 2008 Summer Olympics and won two medals for his new nation at the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, with a silver in the C-2 1000 m and a bronze in the C-2 500 m events. Aleksandr Viktorovich Kostoglod (russian: Александр Викторович Костоглод, born 31 May 1974) is a Soviet-born, Russian sprint canoeist who has competed since the early 1990s. Competing in four Summer Olympics, he won three medals with two silvers (2004: C-2 1000 m, 2008: C-2 500 m) and one bronze (2004: C-2 500 m). Kostoglod is a six-time world champion gold medallist in the Canadian canoe (C) events. Kostoglod did not take up canoeing until the age of fourteen, at the suggestion of family friend and double world champion Vladimir Ladosha.
