These are the results of the men's K-1 slalom competition in canoeing at the 1996 Summer Olympics. The K-1 (kayak single) event is raced by one-man kayaks through a whitewater course. Canoe slalom (previously known as whitewater slalom) is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a Spraydeck, decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on Whitewater, river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of the two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. The other Olympic canoeing discipline is canoe racing, canoe sprint. Wildwater canoeing is a non-Olympic paddlesport. David Ford (kayaker)
David Watson Ford (born March 23, 1967 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a Canadian slalom canoeist who has competed since the mid-1980s and is still actively competing. He is Canada's most successful slalom paddler. Career Ford has won two medals in the K1 event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. In 1999 he became the first non-European to win the World Championship title. Ford followed up with a World Championship silver in 2003. In 2003 he also won the overall World Cup title in K1. Peter Nagy (17 December 1964 – 3 December 2021) was a Slovak slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1990 to 2001, specializing in the K1 discipline. He won a bronze medal for Czechoslovakia in the K1 team event at the 1991 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Tacen. Nagy competed in two Summer Olympics for Slovakia.
