The men's C-1 1000 metres event was an open-style, individual canoeing event conducted as part of the Canoeing at the 1992 Summer Olympics program. Medallists Results Heats 19 competitors were entered. The top three finishers in each heat moved on to the semifinals with the others relegated to the repechages. Repechages The top four finishers in each repechage and the fastest fifth-place finisher moved on to the semifinals. Semifinals The top four finishers in each semifinal and the fastest fifth-place finisher advanced to the final. Neither Liljedahl nor Tikerpe's disqualifications were disclosed in the official report. Final The final took place on August 8. Steve Giles
Stephen Giles (born July 4, 1972) is a Canadian sprint canoeist who competed from the early 1990s to the mid 2000s. Competing in four Summer Olympics, he won the bronze in the C-1 1000 m event at Sydney in 2000. Life Giles was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick. He began canoeing at age eight at the Orenda Racing Canoe Club in Lake Echo, Nova Scotia. He was a member of the Canadian national team for fifteen years, including eleven senior world championships. He was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in 2012. He was adept at both the 500 m event and 1000 m early in his career. His best races came in the C-1 1000 m event later in his career, earning the world championship gold medal in 1998 at Szeged, Hungary. Michał Śliwiński (Mykhaylo Slyvynsky uk, Михайло Сливинський; born February 5, 1970 in Dobrotvir, Ukrainian SSR) is a Soviet/ Ukrainian/Polish sprint canoer, who has won six world championship titles over his long career. An ethnic Pole from Ukraine, Śliwiński represented the USSR at the 1988 Olympics, winning the Canadian canoe C-1 500 m silver medal at the age of only eighteen. Over the next three years he dominated the event, winning consecutive world championship gold medals in 1989, 1990 and 1991. However, in the 1992 Olympics he had to settle for another silver medal behind Nikolay Bukhalov of Bulgaria. Aleksandr Viktorovich Kostoglod (russian: Александр Викторович Костоглод, born 31 May 1974) is a Soviet-born, Russian sprint canoeist who has competed since the early 1990s. Competing in four Summer Olympics, he won three medals with two silvers (2004: C-2 1000 m, 2008: C-2 500 m) and one bronze (2004: C-2 500 m). Kostoglod is a six-time world champion gold medallist in the Canadian canoe (C) events. Kostoglod did not take up canoeing until the age of fourteen, at the suggestion of family friend and double world champion Vladimir Ladosha.
