Cannon Township, Michigan
Cannon Township is a civil township of Kent County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 13,336 at the 2010 census. The township was organized as a survey township in 1845. It is part of the Grand Rapids metropolitan area and is located about northeast of the city of Grand Rapids. Cannons is an American indie pop band formed in 2013 in Los Angeles. The band consists of lead vocalist Michelle Joy, guitarist Ryan Clapham, and bassist and keyboardist Paul Davis. History Ryan Clapham and Paul Davis, who have been friends since childhood, began composing music together in their teenage years. In 2013, Clapham and Davis formed Cannons with Michelle Joy after meeting her through the website Craigslist, where she had posted an advertisement seeking a band in need of a vocalist. The trio collaborated on early Cannons material over the Internet, with Clapham and Davis emailing musical tracks to Joy, who would then email back her own lyrical and vocal contributions. Cannons issued their first EP ''Up All Night'' in 2014. The band then released their debut album ''Night Drive'' in 2017, as well as a second EP, ''In a Heartbeat'', the following year. Cannon were a five-piece, instrumental post-rock band, based in Glasgow, Scotland. History Cannon was formed in early 1999 by guitarists David Philp, Stuart Henderson, and Jonny Williamson. The band lineup was completed by the addition of Andrew Gifford of Fiddlers' Bid on bass and drummer Tom Pettigrew. Gigging throughout Scotland, Cannon played alongside bands such as Interpol, Bis, The Cooper Temple Clause and Medal, as well as appearances at music festivals such as Truck in 2001 and T in the Park in 2002. The band were championed by DJ Vic Galloway, their records getting regular play on his BBC Radio Scotland show, "Air", and they were invited to record a live session for the show. Pettigrew left the band in late 2001 and was replaced by former Juliet Turner and Duke Special sideman Tim Harbinson. Gifford left several months later, and was replaced by Craig Sinclair. A tom drum is a cylindrical drum with no snares, named from the Anglo-Indian and Sinhala language. It was added to the drum kit in the early part of the 20th century. Most toms range in size between in diameter, though floor toms can go as large as . It is not to be confused with a tam-tam, a gong. Design history The drum called "Thammattama", played by the Sinhala people of Sri Lanka, is used in a number of Buddhist rituals in that country. It is commonly heard in Buddhist temples paired along with the reed instrument called horanava. This may be etymologically derived from the Tamil term "Thappattam" or "Thappu", a frame drum associated with South Indian Tamil culture. However, the tom-tom drums on the Western drum set clearly resemble the Sri Lankan version more than the frame drum. ''Il Cannone Guarnerius'' of 1743 is a violin created by the Italian luthier Giuseppe Antonio Guarneri of Cremona (1698–1744). Il Cannone is also known by the variants ''Il Cannone del Gesù'', the ''Cannon'', often appended with ''Guarneri del Gesù'', the Guarneri trademark. The violin received its name from a former owner, the Italian violin virtuoso Niccolò Paganini (1782–1840), because of its power and resonance. So associated is Paganini with ''Il Cannone'' that it is common for the violin to be referenced as ''Il Cannone, ex Paganini''. Paganini lost a valuable Antonio Amati violin as a result of his penchant for voracious gambling. He was given a neglected Guarneri violin, a gift from an amateur violinist and businessman. The Cannon Group, Inc. was an American group of companies, including Cannon Films, which produced films from 1967 to 1994. Cannon Mills
The Cannon Mills Company was an American textile manufacturing company based in Kannapolis, North Carolina, that mainly produced towels and bed sheets. Founded in 1887 by James William Cannon, by 1914 the company was the largest towel and sheets manufacturer in the world. Cannon remained family-owned until 1982 when it was sold to David H. Murdock. Murdock sold the company to Fieldcrest in 1985, becoming Fieldcrest-Cannon. The company was subsequently sold to Pillowtex Corporation in 1997, which entered bankruptcy in July 2003. The remaining Cannon brands were purchased by the Iconix Brand Group.
