Canadian Ambassador To Ireland
This is a list of Canadian ambassadors and high commissioners to Ireland. From 1928 to 1949 Canada sent High Commissioners to the Irish Free State, which was a fellow member of the Commonwealth at the time. With the passage of the Republic of Ireland Act 1948, Ireland left the Commonwealth, and Canada and Ireland have exchanged ambassadors since. The ambassador lives at 22 Oakley Road, Ranelagh a rowhouse in The Triangle area. From 1954 to 2008 the ambassador lived at Strathmore in Killiney. William Ferdinand Alphonse Turgeon
William Ferdinand Alphonse Turgeon, (June 3, 1877 – January 11, 1969) was a Canadian politician and judge in the Province of Saskatchewan. He also served as a diplomat for the Government of Canada. Early life Turgeon was born in Petit-Rocher, New Brunswick, the son of prominent Canadian politician Onésiphore Turgeon. His brother, James Gray Turgeon, was also a politician in Alberta. Dennis McDermott (November 3, 1922 – February 13, 2003) was a Canadian trade unionist who served as Canadian Director of the United Auto Workers from 1968 to 1978 and president of the Canadian Labour Congress from 1978 to 1986. Albert Edgar Ritchie, (December 20, 1916 – January 24, 2002) was a Canadian diplomat. Early life and education Born in Andover, New Brunswick, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1938 from Mount Allison University. A Rhodes scholar, he received an additional Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oxford in 1940. Career In 1944, he joined the Minister of Foreign Affairs and worked in Washington, D.C. He resigned in 1946 to become Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs Department of the United Nations. He re-joined the Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1948 and was posted in London. In 1959, he was appointed Assistant Under-Secretary of State for External Affairs.
