Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep pool where players cannot touch the bottom. A game consists mainly of the players swimming to move about the pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the goal. Teamwork, tactical thinking and awareness are also highly important aspects. Water polo is a highly physical and demanding sport and has frequently been cited as one of the most difficult to play. Water Polo At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Tournament
The women's tournament of water polo at the 2020 Summer Olympics at Tokyo, Japan was played from 24 July to 7 August 2021 at the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center. It was the sixth appearance of the women's tournament, which had been held consecutively since 2000. On 24 March 2020, the Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cora Campbell
Cora Campbell (born May 28, 1974 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian water polo player. She is a graduate of the University of Calgary. She was part of the 5th place women's water polo team at the 2000 Summer Olympics and was part of the bronze medal winning women's water polo team at the 2001 world championships in Fukuoka, Japan. She was a member of the 7th place Canadian women's water polo team at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She graduated from Riverdale High School. Her coach Pat Oaten is also a coach at the Dollard-des-Ormeaux Civic Center. Waneek Horn-Miller
Waneek Horn-Miller (born November 30, 1975) is a Canadian water polo player from the Kahnawake Mohwak Territory. She was a member of the Canadian women's water polo team that won a gold medal at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg. Horn-Miller also became the first Mohawk woman from Canada to ever compete in the Olympic games. She was named an inductee for Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in the athlete category in 2019. Sporting career Waneek Horn-Miller was a key member of the Canadian women's water polo team that won gold at the 1999 Pan Am Games. Voted MVP, Horn-Miller became co-captain and proudly led her team at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, the first year the Olympics included women’s water polo. The team finished fifth in Sydney. Rachel Riddell (born September 5, 1984 in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a Canadian water polo goaltender. She participated at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Life Riddell was a student at Loyola Marymount University, and Concordia University. She was part of the 4th place women's water polo team at the 2003 world championships in Barcelona, Spain. She was awarded best goalkeeper at the 2003 World Junior Championships in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, when the Canadian team won the gold medal. Since 2003 Rachel Riddell has been a member of Canada's senior women's water polo team. At the 2005 Fina aquatic games, in Montreal, Canada, she won acclaim for her play in the bronze medal winning game for Canada. In 2006, she helped Canada win silver at the Commonwealth games in Melbourne, Australia.
