Dartmouth College is located in the rural town of Hanover in the Upper Valley of the Connecticut River in the New England state of New Hampshire. Dartmouth's campus centered on the Green makes the institution the largest private landowner in the town of Hanover, and its landholdings and facilities are valued at an estimated $419 million. Dartmouth's campus buildings vary in age from several early 19th century buildings to a number of ongoing construction projects. Most of Dartmouth's buildings are designed in the Georgian style, a theme which has been preserved in recent architectural additions. Wallace Harrison
Wallace Kirkman Harrison (September 28, 1895 – December 2, 1981) was an American architect. Harrison started his professional career with the firm of Corbett, Harrison & MacMurray, participating in the construction of Rockefeller Center. He is best known for executing large public projects in New York City and upstate, many of them a result of his long and fruitful personal relationship with Nelson Rockefeller, for whom he served as an adviser. Career Harrison's work in the mid-twentieth century comprised large, modernist public projects and office buildings. As a young man, Harrison took classes in engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and in architecture at the Boston Architectural Club; he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in the early 1920s and won the Rotch Taveling Scholarship in 1922. Hopkins Center For The Arts
Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth College is located at 4 East Wheelock Street in Hanover, New Hampshire. The center, which was designed by Wallace Harrison and foreshadows his later design of Manhattan's Lincoln Center, is the college's cultural hub. It is home to the drama and music departments. In addition to these fields, the Hopkins Center, or the "Hop" as it is called by students, has a woodshop and jewelry studio which are open for use by students and the public. Features Within the Hopkins Center are Faulkner Recital Hall, Spaulding Auditorium, Warner Bentley Theater, the Moore Theater, and Alumni Hall. John Sloan Dickey
John Sloan Dickey (November 4, 1907 – February 9, 1991) was an American diplomat, scholar, and intellectual. Dickey served as the 12th President of Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire, from 1945 to 1970, and helped revitalize the Ivy League institution. Early life John Sloan Dickey was born in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. He completed his undergraduate degree at Dartmouth in 1929 and later graduated from Harvard Law School. Dartmouth Medical School
The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth is the graduate medical school of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. The fourth oldest medical school in the United States, it was founded in 1797 by New England physician Nathan Smith. It is one of the seven Ivy League medical schools. Dartmouth Hall
Dartmouth Hall is the name for two buildings constructed on the same site and same stone foundation at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, since 1784. The current brick building was largely constructed from 1904 to 1906. History Construction of the original Dartmouth Hall began in 1784. The school originally planned to construct the building of brick, but eventually pine and oak were used instead due to greater availability and lesser cost. The Hall was the sole college building upon its completion in 1791, and was simply known as "the college" until at least 1828 when it was first referred to as Dartmouth Hall. The Hall survived a tornado in 1802 and fires in 1798 and 1848, which led to renovations being completed. The Hall remained the oldest College building on the Dartmouth campus until it burned in 1904.
