Campo De San Juan (Moratalla)
The Campo de San Juan was the seigneurial lordship of the Order of St. John in the lands of La Mancha. It was the most important possession of the Grand Priory of the Langue (Knights Hospitaller), langue of Castile and León. It spanned across territory of the current Spanish provinces of Province of Toledo, Toledo and Province of Ciudad Real, Ciudad Real. The most important urban centres were Consuegra and Alcázar de San Juan. History The presence of the Order of St. John in the lands of La Mancha started in 1162 when a number of Knights Hospitallers were donated several villages. Also in Castile, they held the fortress of Uclés from 1163 to 1174. The Kingdom of Toledo ( es, Reino de Toledo) was a realm in the central Iberian Peninsula, created after the capture of Toledo by Alfonso VI of León in 1085. It continued in existence until 1833; its region is currently within Spain. Background In April 1065, Emir Al-Muqtadir of Zaragoza besieged Barbastro, aided by 500 Sevillian knights. The governor, Count Ermengol III of Urgel, was killed in a sortie, and a few days later the city fell, whereupon the Spanish and French garrison was put to the sword, thus bringing an end to Pope Alexander II's Crusade of Barbastro against the Moors of Spain. Hispania
Hispania ( la, Hispānia , ; nearly identically pronounced in Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, and Italian) was the Roman name for the Iberian Peninsula and its provinces. Under the Roman Republic, Hispania was divided into two provinces: Hispania Citerior and Hispania Ulterior. During the Principate, Hispania Ulterior was divided into two new provinces, Baetica and Lusitania, while Hispania Citerior was renamed Hispania Tarraconensis. Camuñas is a municipality located in the Toledo (province), province of Toledo, Castile-La Mancha, Spain. Quero is a municipality in the province of Toledo, Castile-La Mancha, in central Spain. According to the 2012 census the municipality has a population of 1,311 inhabitants, down from a total of 3,101 in the 1930 census. Location Quero \is located 107 km east of Toledo. Argamasilla de Alba is a municipality in the Province of Ciudad Real, Castile-La Mancha, Spain. It has a population of 6,791. According to local legend, ''Don Quixote'' author Miguel de Cervantes was held prisoner here, and refers to the municipality in the prologue of ''Don Quixote'' Part I, making a joke about imprisonment"engendered in a jail"because the word "argamasilla" is Spanish for " mortar".
