Camp Wyandot
Camp Wyandot (formerly known as Camp Fire USA Central Ohio Council, Inc.) is owned and operated by Camp Wyandot, Inc., a non-profit youth organization, based in Columbus, Ohio, USA. On April 30, 2013, Camp Wyandot became an independent organization and is no longer affiliated with Camp Fire. Camp Wyandot itself is located in the Hocking Hills region of South Central Ohio. Wyandot hosts resident camps during the summer, as well as user groups and environmental education groups during the spring and fall. It is accredited by the American Camp Association. Location Camp Wyandot is located in the Clear Creek Valley adjacent to Clear Creek Metro Park, part of Columbus Metro Parks system. The property consists of just over of mixed forests, located in a steep valley, with a lake and creeks that drain into Clear Creek. Camp Fire USA
Camp Fire, formerly Camp Fire USA and originally Camp Fire Girls of America, is a co-ed youth development organization. Camp Fire was the first nonsectarian, multicultural organization for girls in America. It is gender inclusive, and its programs emphasize camping and other outdoor activities. Its informal roots extend back to 1910, with efforts by Mrs. Charles Farnsworth in Thetford, Vermont and Luther Gulick, M.D., and his wife, Charlotte Vedder Gulick, on Sebago Lake, near South Casco, Maine. Camp Fire Girls, as it was known at the time, was created as the sister organization to the Boy Scouts of America. The organization changed its name in 1975 to Camp Fire Boys and Girls when membership eligibility was expanded to include boys. Hocking Hills
The Hocking Hills is a deeply dissected area of the Allegheny Plateau in Ohio, primarily in Hocking County, that features cliffs, gorges, rock shelters, and waterfalls. The relatively extreme topography in this area is due to the Blackhand Sandstone (so named because of Native American graphics on the formation near Newark, Ohio), a particular formation that is thick, hard and weather-resistant, and so forms high cliffs and narrow, deep gorges. American Camp Association
The American Camp Association (ACA), formerly known as the American Camping Association, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves the United States. It is an association for camp owners, camp professionals and others interested in summer camps and similar camp programs. Since 1948, the ACA has offered the only nationwide external professional peer-review accreditation program for camps. According to ACA, to become accredited, camps must meet up to 300 health and safety standards, which are considered best practices throughout the industry. Columbus Metro Parks
The Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks are a group of 19 metropolitan parks in and around Columbus, Ohio. They are officially organized into the Columbus and Franklin County Metropolitan Park District. The Metro Parks system was organized in 1945 under Ohio Revised Code Section 1545 as a separate political division of the state of Ohio. The Metro Parks are overseen by a Board of Park Commissioners consisting of three citizens appointed to three-year terms without compensation by the Judge of the Probate Court of Franklin County, Ohio. The Board in turn appoints an Executive Director responsible for operations and management of the parks.
