Subway Soccer Centre
The Calgary Soccer Centre (formerly called the Subway (restaurant), Subway Soccer Centre) is an indoor soccer Sports arena, facility located in Calgary, Alberta. The soccer sports complex, centre is owned and operated by the City of Calgary. The centre is a prime venue for many minor soccer teams in Calgary. History On Monday, November 22, 2010, the Soccer Centre's expansions (known most commonly as "the bubble") collapsed for the second time in two years. According to Perry Logan, the general manager, the collapse was most likely caused by a supporting anchor collapsing before carving a rip in the material. Nobody was inside the bubble and therefore no one was injured in the incident. In 2014, the City of Calgary built a permanent second building (the Annex) to replace the previous structure (the "bubble"). The Annex houses three indoor soccer fields and one multi-purpose field. Tom Widdowson
Thomas Widdowson (1862 – 1944) was an English footballer who played in The Football League for Notts County. Early career Tom Widdowson was born in Hucknall, in the County of Nottinghamshire. When Widdowson was born, (between 1 January and 31 March 1862) Hucknall was an industrial centre just to the North of the City of Nottingham. Apparently, Widdowson appeared to be a late developer in football terms as he was not signed by Nottingham Forest until 1887, when he was past his 25th Birthday. When Widdowson was on the books at Nottingham Forest, 1887-1888 the club were not playing in a competitive League but did enter the F.A. Cup. Widdowson was still at Forest at the start of 1888–1889 season but by December 1888 Notts County needed a goalkeeper and so Widdowson, approaching his 27th Birthday signed for a Football League club. Christopher John Kooy (June 11, 1982 – August 21, 2020) was a Canadian soccer player who played for FC Edmonton in the North American Soccer League. Career Professional In 2004, Kooy played a championship season with Mount Royal College (Voted ACIC All Canadian) and the Calgary Mustangs in the old USL First Division. He also played with Canadian senior amateur side Calgary Callies in the Alberta Major Soccer League, with whom he won National Club Championships in 2003, 2007 and 2008. He was playing with Edmonton Scottish in the Alberta Major Soccer League and was instrumental in helping the club win their first National Club Championship, and his fourth, in 2016.
