Calgary Society Of Independent Filmmakers
The Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers was formed in 1978 and is operated on a non-profit basis out of Calgary, Alberta in Canada. Four decades ago, twelve local filmmakers and artists collaborated to form the Society of Filmmakers in response to a growing interest in film production and need for equipment and resources. The organization is commonly known by its members as CSIF. 25th anniversary In 2003, the Society celebrated its 25th anniversary. Gary Burns (director)
Gary Burns (born 1960) is a Canadian film writer and director. Burns studied drama at the University of Calgary before attending Concordia University, where he graduated in 1992 from the Fine Arts film program. Born in Calgary, Alberta, many of Burns' films are shot in Calgary, and contain references to the particularities of living in the city. The Plus 15 system becomes the habitrail of urban semi-professionals in waydowntown and the public transportation system becomes a node where lives intersect in ''The Suburbanators''. Robert Cuffley
Robert Cuffley is a Canadian film director and screenwriter. He began with music videos, directing over 40 in all, before moving into short films, and later, drama. Career In 2001, Cuffley directed '' Turning Paige'' (2001), starring Nicholas Campbell and Katharine Isabelle. Following this, he directed '' Walk All over Me'' (2007), starring Leelee Sobieski. David Winning
David Winning is a Canadian-American film and television director, screenwriter, producer, editor, and occasional actor. Although Winning has worked in numerous film and TV genres, his name is most commonly associated with science fiction, thrillers and drama. Life and career Winning was born in Calgary, Alberta. He became a dual citizen of the US and Canada in 2003 and lives in Los Angeles. He was making films at age ten with a Super 8 camera. In 1979, he received a Canada Council grant to make the sixteen millimeter drama ''Sequence'', and expanded the plotline into his first feature film Storm, filmed in the summer of 1983 in Bragg Creek, Alberta. It was shot with money that his father had set aside for film school and was screened at Cannes. It took four years to finish and was released by Golan-Globus' Cannon Films International and Warner Home Video in 1988.
