Cais do Sodré is an area in the center of Lisbon, Portugal, between Cais da Marinha and Cais do Gás. Montijo, Portugal
Montijo () is a municipality in Setúbal District in Portugal. Its name was Aldeia Galega do Ribatejo or simply Aldeia Galega until 1930. The population in 2021 was 55,732, in an area of 348.62 km2. The town of Montijo proper had a population of 25,719 in 2001. It is one of the few municipalities in Portugal without territorial continuity; that is, its component parts are not conjoined. ''Os Maias: Episódios da Vida Romântica'' ("The Maias: Episodes of Romantic Life") is a realist novel by Portuguese author Eça de Queiroz. ''Maia'' is the name of the fictional family the novel is about. As early as 1878, while serving in the Portuguese consulate at Newcastle upon Tyne, Eça had at least given a name to this book and had begun working on it. It was mainly written during his residence in Bristol, and it was first published in 1888. The book largely concerns the life of young aristocrat Carlos da Maia in 1870s Portugal, when along with his best friend João da Ega he spends his time making witticisms about society and having affairs. The novel uses the Monarchy's decline in Portugal (late 19th century), as a predominant theme, reflecting its author's own regret at his country's slow decay. José Maria de Eça de Queiroz (; 25 November 1845 – 16 August 1900) is generally considered to have been the greatest Portuguese writer in the realist style. Zola considered him to be far greater than Flaubert. In the London ''Observer'', Jonathan Keates ranked him alongside Dickens, Balzac and Tolstoy. Biography Eça de Queiroz was born in Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal, in 1845. Seixal () is a Portugal, Portuguese city and municipality, located in the district of Setúbal District, Setúbal, in the metropolitan area of Lisbon region, Lisbon. Cais do Sodré is a station on the Green Line of the Lisbon Metro. It is located in the Praça Duque da Terceira, connecting to the Cais do Sodré railway station and with a boat station (allowing for quick travel between Lisbon and Cacilhas, Seixal and Montijo. History This metro station was built by Pedro Botelho and Nuno Teotónio Pereira and the art work was done by António Dacosta, which left some of his drawings to be used in the station after his death, with some help from the painter Pedro Morais.
