The Cabinet of the Dominican Republic is chosen by the President of the Dominican Republic, President of the Republic and can be removed by the president at any time. The cabinet ministers were known as Secretaries of State until 26 January 2010 with the proclamation of the new Constitution of the Dominican Republic#Constitution of 2009, Constitution. Current Cabinet Luis Abinader won the Presidency in the 2020 Dominican Republic general election, 5 July 2020 election. The presidential system was established in 1844, following the proclamation of the republic during the Dominican War of Independence. History The Ministry was established on 14 November 1844, nine months after the country attained independence. It was known originally as the Ministry of Finance and Trade.
