Cabinet Weil II
The second Weil cabinet was the state government of Lower Saxony between 2017 and 2022, sworn in on 22 November 2017 after Stephan Weil was elected as Minister-President of Lower Saxony by the members of the Landtag of Lower Saxony. It was the 29th Cabinet of Lower Saxony. It was formed after the 2017 Lower Saxony state election by the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Excluding the Minister-President, the cabinet comprised ten ministers. Five were members of the SPD and five were members of the CDU. The second Weil cabinet was succeeded by the third Weil cabinet on 8 November 2022. Stephan Weil
Stephan Weil (born 15 December 1958) is a German politician and the leader of the Social Democratic Party in Lower Saxony. On 20 January 2013, the SPD and the Green party won the 2013 Lower Saxony state election by one seat. On 19 February 2013, he was elected Minister President of Lower Saxony with the votes of SPD and Alliance '90/The Greens. From 1 November 2013 until 31 October 2014 he was President of the Bundesrat and ''ex officio'' deputy to the President of Germany. In November 2017, he was again elected Minister President with the votes of SPD and CDU. Early life and education Weil has lived in Hanover since 1965, where he completed the abitur at the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gymnasium. After his mandatory community service in 1978 he began a law degree in Göttingen, which he finished with his first state examination in 1983. Björn Thümler
Björn Thümler (; born 22 November 1970) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) who served as Minister for Science and Culture for Lower Saxony from 2017 to 2022. Thümler has been a part of the Landtag of Lower Saxony since 2003. As minister, he also was a member of the German Bundesrat from 2017 to 2022. Early life and education Thümler was born in Brake and grew up in the municipality Berne where he went to Kindergarten and Primary school. From 1990 Thümler did his Grundwehrdienst in the 11th Panzergrenadier Division in Oldenburg until 1991. Thümler got his Abitur at the Gymnasium Brake in 1990. Grant Hendrik Tonne (born 22 June 1976) is a German politician who became Minister for Education for Lower Saxony in 2017. Since 2020 he has been a member of the Landtag of Lower Saxony. Tonne has been one of the state's representatives on the German Bundesrat since 2017. He is a member of the German-Polish Friendship Group set up in cooperation with the Senate of Poland. Reinhold Hilbers (born 25 July 1964 in Lingen, Germany, Lingen) is a German businessman and politician of the Christian Democratic Union (Germany), Christian Democratic Union (CDU).
