COVID-19 Pandemic In Sarawak
The COVID-19 pandemic was confirmed to have reached the state of Sarawak, Malaysia in March 2020. As of 16 November 2022, there are 318,731 confirmed cases. Timeline First wave March 2020 On 13 March, Sarawak has recorded its first COVID-19 cases, with three patients tested positive for the virus in Kuching. The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee in a statement said 2 cases were from the cluster who attended a religious gathering at Sri Petaling Mosque in Kuala Lumpur on 28 February to 1 March, the third cases was a family member of case 2. On 14 March, The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee reported 6 new cases were recorded, bringing the total of positive cases to nine. The chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said 2 new cases were recorded in Limbang while 4 new cases were recorded in Kuching. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by a virus, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The first known case was identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The disease quickly spread worldwide, resulting in the COVID-19 pandemic. Sim Kui Hian
Prof. Dato Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian (; born 18 August 1965) is a Malaysian politician and cardiologist who is serving as the Deputy Premier of Sarawak and the territory's Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) administration under Premier Abang Abdul Rahman Johari Abang Openg since January 2022, as well as an elected representative for the constituency of N14 Batu Kawah in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) since May 2016. Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Abang Haji Openg ( Jawi: ابڠ عبد الرحمن جوهري بن ابڠ اوڤيڠ; born 4 August 1950), familiarly known as Abang Jo or Abang Johari, is a Malaysian politician who has served as Premier of Sarawak since March 2022. Bintulu
Bintulu is a coastal town on the island of Borneo in the central region of Sarawak, Malaysia. Bintulu is located 610 kilometres (380 mi) northeast of Kuching, 216 kilometres (134 mi) northeast of Sibu, and 200 kilometres (120 mi) southwest of Miri. With a population of 114,058 as of 2010, Bintulu is the capital of the Bintulu District of the Bintulu Division of Sarawak, Malaysia. The name of Bintulu was derived from the local native language "Mentu Ulau" (picking heads). Bintulu was a small fishing village when Rajah James Brooke acquired it in 1861. Betong is a town in Betong Division in Sarawak, Malaysia, lying in the Saribas area. It used to be placed under the district of Sri Aman. Serian, Sarawak
Serian is a town, and the capital of the ''Serian'' (2,039.9 square kilometres) separated on 11 April 2015 from Samarahan Division, Sarawak, Malaysia. It is located about from Kuching. Sub-district headquarters towns are Balai Ringin and Tebedu. The town is known for its durians, which are popularly believed to be the best in Sarawak. This has prompted the Serian District Council to erect a giant monument to this "king of fruits" right in the middle of the market square. However, other monuments such as the tiger and the buffalo statues seem out of place as there are no tigers or buffalos in this district. Lawas
Lawas ( ms, Pekan Lawas) is a small town and the capital of Lawas District, Limbang Division, Sarawak, Malaysia. This district area is 3,811.90 square kilometres, and population (year 2020 census) was 46,200. It is 1,200 km from the state capital, Kuching and 200 km from the capital city of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu. Etymology There are several versions of the origin of the name "Lawas". It reportedly came from the Malay word ''luas'' which means "spacious". During earlier times, people tended to settle down in spacious areas and thus the town was born. Sarawak General Hospital
Sarawak General Hospital (Malay: ''Hospital Umum Sarawak'') is the largest hospital in the state of Sarawak, Malaysia. It is the main tertiary and referral hospital in East Malaysia. In its earlier years it was known as Kuching General Hospital. History Sarawak General Hospital has been in existence since 1870. However, no proper historical records have been preserved of its existence. The earliest record about the hospital is from 1910. Based from this documentation, the hospital was initially located at the current site of the Kuching Central Prison (later renamed into "Pavilion Building" and converted to Sarawak Textile Museum in 2000) and a total of 920 patients were admitted to the hospital during that year.
