Clouddead
Clouddead (styled as cLOUDDEAD) was an American experimental hip hop group, consisting of Doseone (Adam Drucker), Why? (Yoni Wolf) and Odd Nosdam (David Madson). The group's name came from a nonsensical knock-knock joke Drucker's sister told him when she was five years old. Style Generally Drucker and Wolf provide the group's vocals while Madson produces the music. Occasionally Madson's vocals can be heard, while Drucker and Wolf provide music, especially for the group's second album. Clouddead's sound is notoriously hard to define, and although it is undoubtedly grounded in "traditional" hip-hop, influences as varied as electronica, psychedelic music and indie rock can be heard. Because of this non-traditional take on hip-hop, more conservative elements of the rap community have characterized Clouddead as "smartarse surrealism," with some elements of the community rejecting the notion that the group can be classed as hip hop at all, ignoring Sole's request to "just call it ... It was released on May 1, 2001 on Big Dada in the United Kingdom and on May 8, 2001 on Mush Records in the United States. Yoni Wolf
Jonathan Avram "Yoni" Wolf (born April 30, 1979) is an American alternative hip hop and indie rock musician and co-founder of the record label Anticon. From 1997 until 2004, Wolf released music under the stage name Why?. In 2004 he transferred that name onto his newly founded band. Thereafter he has been credited for his solo work as Yoni Wolf. Prior to the founding of the band Why? in 2004, Wolf had also been a member of numerous other groups, including Greenthink, Object Beings, Clouddead, Reaching Quiet and Hymie's Basement. History Wolf was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Messianic Jewish parents. Before his first year in high school, he discovered an old 4-track in his father's synagogue and began to experiment musically. ''Ten'' is the second and final album by American hip hop trio Clouddead. It was released on March 8, 2004 on Big Dada in the United Kingdom and on March 16, 2004 on Mush Records in the United States. "Dead Dogs Two" was released as a single from the album. The album peaked at number 17 on the UK Independent Albums Chart, as well as number 16 on the UK R&B Albums Chart. Critical reception At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, ''Ten'' received an average score of 74, based on 22 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". David P. Madson (born 1976), better known by his stage name Odd Nosdam, is an American underground hip hop producer, DJ and visual artist. He is co-founder of the record label Anticon. He has remixed tracks by a variety of bands and artists including Boards of Canada, The Notwist, and Sole. History Odd Nosdam was first noticed for his production on ''cLOUDDEAD'', the debut album released in 2001 by cLOUDDEAD, his former group with Yoni Wolf of Why? and Doseone.
