Burundi made its Paralympic Games début at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, sending three male athletes to compete in racing events for arm amputees (T46 category). None of them won a medal, although Rémy Nikobimeze did come fifth (out of 15) in the 5,000m race. Burundi has never taken part in the Winter Paralympics. Burundi (, ), officially the Republic of Burundi ( rn, Repuburika y’Uburundi ; Swahili language, Swahili: ''Jamuhuri ya Burundi''; French language, French: ''République du Burundi'' ), is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley at the junction between the African Great Lakes region and East Africa. The medal table of the 2016 Summer Paralympics ranks the participating National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) by the number of gold medals won by their athletes during the competition. The 2016 Paralympics was the fifteenth Games to be held, a quadrennial competition open to athletes with physical and intellectual disabilities. Burundi first participated at the Olympic Games in 1996, and has sent athletes to compete in every Summer Olympic Games since then. The nation has never participated in the Winter Olympic Games. Vénuste Niyongabo won a gold medal in athletics in the 1996 Games, and Francine Niyonsaba added a silver 20 years later. The National Olympic Committee for Burundi was created in 1990 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1993. Leonidas I (; grc-gre, Λεωνίδας; died 19 September 480 BC) was a king of the Greek city-state of Sparta, and the 17th of the Agiad line, a dynasty which claimed descent from the mythological demigod Heracles. Leonidas I was son of King Anaxandridas II. He succeeded his half-brother King Cleomenes I to the throne in c. 489 BC. His co-ruler was King Leotychidas. He was succeeded by his son, King Pleistarchus. Leonidas had a notable participation in the Second Greco-Persian War, where he led the allied Greek forces to a last stand at the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC) while attempting to defend the pass from the invading Persian army; he died at the battle and entered myth as the leader of the 300 Spartans. Athletics at the 2008 Summer Paralympics were held in Beijing National Stadium from September 8 to September 17. There were 160 gold medals in this sport. Classification Athletes are given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allows athletes to compete against others with a similar level of function. The athletics classifications are: * 11–13: Blind athletes * 32–38: Athletes with cerebral palsy * 40: Les Autres (others) (including people with dwarfism) * 42–46: Amputees * 51–58: Athletes with a spinal cord disability The class numbers are given prefixes of "T", "F" and "P" for track, field and pentathlon events, respectively. All-time Paralympic Games Medal Table
An all-time medal table for all Paralympic Games from 1960 to 2020. The International Paralympic Committee does not publish all-time tables, and publishes unofficial tables only per single Games. This table was thus compiled by adding up single entries from the IPC database. This medal table also includes the medals won on the 1992 Summer Paralympics for Intellectualy Disabled, held in Madrid, which also organized by the International Coordination Committee (ICC) and same Organizing Committee (COOB'92) that made the gestion of the 1992 Summer Paralympics held in Barcelona and also part of same event.
