Buchanan County, Missouri
Buchanan County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 United States census, the population was 84,793. Its county seat is St. Joseph. When originally formed in 1838, the county was named Roberts County, after settler Hiram Roberts. It was renamed in 1839 for James Buchanan, then a U.S. Senator and later President of the United States. The county was formed from land annexed to Missouri, as were five other counties. James Buchanan
James Buchanan Jr. ( ; April 23, 1791June 1, 1868) was the 15th president of the United States, serving from 1857 to 1861. He also served as the United States Secretary of State, secretary of state from 1845 to 1849 and represented Pennsylvania in both houses of the U.S. Congress. Buchanan was an advocate for states' rights, particularly regarding Slavery in the United States, slavery, and minimized the role of the Federal government of the United States, federal government preceding the American Civil War. Buchanan was a lawyer in Pennsylvania and won his first election to the state's Pennsylvania House of Representatives, House of Representatives as a Federalist Party, Federalist. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1820 and retained that post for five terms, aligning with Andrew Jackson's Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party. Interstate 229 (Missouri)
Interstate 229 (I-229) is a auxiliary Interstate Highway that runs through St. Joseph, Missouri. It begins southeast of the city at Interstate 29 in Missouri, I-29 and U.S. Route 71 in Missouri, U.S. Route 71 (US 71) and travels to the northwest into the city. In St. Joseph, it concurrency (road), runs with U.S. Route 59 in Missouri, US 59. Just north of an interchange with U.S. Route 36 in Missouri, US 36, the two routes travel over a viaduct on the banks of the Missouri River. The two routes split at the north end of the viaduct. The Interstate ends at another interchange with I-29 and US 71 north of St. Joseph. The viaduct is intended to be demolished and replaced with a surface boulevard, which will de-designate I-229. Missouri Route 45
Route 45 is a highway in northwest Missouri, US in Buchanan County and Platte County which is largely in the bottom land alongside the Missouri River. Route description Its northern terminus is U.S. Route 59 just east of Atchison, Kansas where 59 turns sharply to St. Joseph, Missouri north while 45 heads south towards Kansas City, Missouri. It overlaps Route 273 until just south of Weston, Missouri where 273 breaks off to head east. At Beverly, Missouri, in what is referred to locally as the "Beverly Curve", it intersects Route 92 going east to Platte City, Missouri and west to Leavenworth, Kansas. About three miles (5 km) later at East Leavenworth, Missouri, Route 45 intersects its spur which goes northwest to Leavenworth. Missouri Route 31
Route 31 is a highway in northwestern Missouri. Its northern terminus is at U.S. Route 169 in northwestern De Kalb County; its southern terminus is at US 169 southeast of St. Joseph. Route 31 was one of the original 1922 state highways. Its northern terminus was originally five miles further north in King City at Route 4. That section of Route 31 became part of U.S. Route 169. Route 6 is a state highway in the northern part of the U.S. state of Missouri. It travels from I-29 Bus./ US 169 in St. Joseph to US 24/ US 61 about west of Quincy, Illinois. The highway serves as a major east-west corridor in northern Missouri Route 6, south of US 136 and north of US 36. If only a few miles longer in each direction, would be the only state highway to cross Missouri west to east. It is one of the original 1922 highways in Missouri.
