The boxing, Boxing Tournament at the 1962 Asian Games was held at the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex, Senayan Tennis Stadium (now known as Center Court) in Jakarta, Indonesia between 25 and 31 August 1962. Barkat Ali (boxer), Barkat Ali of Pakistan won the heavyweight gold without a fight in the absence of his only would to be opponent Chang Lo-pu from Taiwan. India's Padam Bahadur Mall was voted the best boxer at the Games. Bung Karno Sports Arena ( id, Kompleks Gelanggang Olahraga Bung Karno, known as Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex), formerly named Senayan Sports Arena ( id, Gelanggang Olahraga Senayan) from 1969 to 2001 and Asian Games Complex ( id, Kompleks Asian Games) on its early days, is a sports complex located in Gelora, Tanah Abang, Gelora, Central Jakarta, Indonesia. It is usually misperceived to be located at Senayan, Kebayoran Baru, Senayan, South Jakarta, hence its former name. The sports complex hosts Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, main stadium, Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium, secondary stadium, the Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Sports Palace, football fields, aquatic stadium, tennis stadiums (indoor and outdoor), hockey, baseball and archery fields, and several indoor gymnasiums. Manfredo Alipala
Manfredo P. Alipala (1938-2006) was a Filipino boxer who competed at the 1964 Summer Olympics. He won a gold medal at the 1962 Asian Games. Alipala died in his sleep at his family residence in Barangay San Roque, Tarlac City on October 8, 2006, at age 68. Muhammad Sharif (boxer)
Mian Muhammad Sharif (Punjabi, ur, ;18 November 1919 – 19 October 2004) was a Pakistani businessman who is known as the co-founder of Ittefaq Group and founder of Sharif Group. Two of his three sons, Nawaz and Shehbaz became Prime Ministers of Pakistan. Early life and family Sharif was born in 1919 to Mian Mohammad Baksh, into a Butt trader family in Jati Umra (Amritsar) to ancestors who migrated from Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir. He was one among seven brothers. According to credible sources, he did his schooling in eastern Punjab, then he moved to Lahore for his college education, he studied in DAV College, Lahore. In 1936, the family relocated to Lahore for better economic opportunities. Sharif used to work as a laborer in a steel factory in Lahore, owned by a Hindu businessman. Kim Deuk-bong (; born 20 January 1934) is a South Korean former boxer who competed as a light welterweight in the 1960 Summer Olympics. Kim lost his fourth fight, the quarterfinal match, to eventual silver-medalist Clement Quartey of Ghana. Amateur career Kim first drew attention at the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo where he protested against a decision by refusing to leave the ring after losing a controversial decision. When Kim fought Shigemasa Kawakami of Japan in the semifinal bout, he dominated his opponent in every round. However, when the judges' scores came up, Kim was judged to have lost to Kawakami. Seconds after the decision was made, Kim's entourage rushed the ring and his supporters in the stands began rioting, fighting with staff and policemen.
