Zawiyet Sidi Boumerdassi
Zawiyet Sidi Boumerdassi ( ar, زاوية سيدي البومرداسي) or Zawiyet Ouled Boumerdès is a zawiya located within Boumerdès Province in Algeria. Construction The zawiya of Ouled Boumerdès was built in 1714 in the southern heights of the current town of Boumerdès within the Kabylia region. The founder of this Sufi school is the great scholar ''Sidi Ali bin Ahmed bin Muhammad al-Boumerdassi'', who established this zawiya of education, which served as a beacon for the people of the Khachna mountains region, and its scientific and light rays extend to the outskirts of the homeland. Cheikh Mohamed El-Boumerdassi ( ar, الشيخ محمد البومرداسي) was one of the principal leaders of the popular Mokrani Revolt uprising of 1871 against the French occupation of Algeria. Early life ''Mohamed ben Hamou ben Abdelkrim El-Boumerdassi'' was a descendant of the marabout ''Sidi Ali Boumerdassi'' who founded the ''Zawiyet Sidi Boumerdassi''. He was born around 1818, and was the oldest of five brothers, whose father ''Hamou ben Abdelkrim'' ( ar, حمو بن عبد الكريم) was a renowned and respected ''Sufi marabout'' in Kabylia, and his mother was ''Zehira bent Mohamed ben Amar'' ( ar, زهيرة بنت محمد بن عمار). As described by the French as adults like his younger brothers, he presented a sober build and a height exceeding 1.6 m, with graying black hair and eyebrows, a receding wrinkled forehead and chestnut eyes with a long slender nose and a big mouth, a round chin on an oval face, a swarthy complexion and he was a little bald. ...

Mohamed Boumerdassi
Mohamed Boumerdassi ( ar, ), (March 18, 1936, in Ouled Boumerdès – December 7, 2010, in Thénia) was considered a Grand Master of Bedouin music, Malhun and Algerian music. Life He was born on March 18, 1936, under the name ''Mohamed ben Mustapha al-Boumerdassi'' in the Ouled Boumerdès village within the actual Boumerdès Province. He received his basic education at the ''Zawiyet Sidi Boumerdassi'' in his native village of ''Ouled Boumerdès'', where he learned the Quran. He was a keen admirer of ''Sheikh Ben Ahmed al-Boumerdassi'', then known for his qasida of madih nabawi and poetry praising Muhammad. He was also a follower of ''Sheikh al-Miliani'', who appointed him ''Commander of Bedouin Song'' (machiakha) after discovering his voice which he greatly admired. He was notably renowned for his song ''Hammam Alouane'' and a tribute was paid to him in 2004 by the Algerian Minister of Culture for the "National festival of Bedouin song and popular poetry".
