Boston Borough Council in Lincolnshire, England is elected every four years. Since the last boundary changes in 2015, 30 councillors are elected from 15 wards. 2007 Boston Borough Council Election
Elections for Boston Borough Council, which covers the Borough of Boston, were held on 3 May 2007. The Boston Bypass Independents won the election in a landslide victory with 25 seats, the first party ever to take overall control of the council since the borough was formed in 1973. It was a single-issue party campaigning on getting a bypass for Boston. All the Labour and Liberal Democrat councillors lost their seats, with only five Conservatives and two Independents also elected. The turnout was 36.9%. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. Boston District Independents
The Boston Bypass Independents were elected to Boston Borough Council at the 2007 local elections. The party campaigned on a wide range of issues but principally on the more vigorous promotion of a bypass for the town of Boston, Lincolnshire. The party contested all 32 seats, winning 25 to become the first party to take overall control of the council since the borough was formed in 1974. By autumn 2008, the party had 18 borough councillors remaining, after losing four members in defections to the Better Boston Group, one to become an independent, and two in by-elections. Following the 2011 local elections, the party was almost wiped out completely. In July 2009, the Audit Commission said, in an assessment covering the period from 2004 to 2009, that the council gave poor value for money for taxpayers. English Democrats
The English Democrats is a right-wing to far-right, English nationalist political party active in England. A minor party, it currently has no elected representatives at any level of UK government. The English Democrats were established in 2002 by members of the Campaign for an English Parliament pressure group. Following growing political devolution in the United Kingdom, which had seen the creation of the Scottish Parliament, Welsh Parliament and Northern Ireland Assembly, the party's founders called for a separate English Parliament. In the 2000s, it obtained a small number of local councillors. The UK Independence Party (UKIP; ) is a Eurosceptic, right-wing populist political party in the United Kingdom. The party reached its greatest level of success in the mid-2010s, when it gained two members of Parliament and was the largest party representing the UK in the European Parliament. Prior to the election the council was under no overall control, being led by a minority Conservative administration with support from some of the independent councillors. Following the results, the council became under the control of local party, Boston Independent, which had only been registered as a party in March 2023. The Conservative leader, Paul Skinner, lost his seat. Boston Independent leader, Anne Dorrian, was appointed as new leader of the council at the subsequent annual council meeting on 22 May 2023.
