Belcarra
Belcarra is a village on the shore of Indian Arm, a side inlet of Burrard Inlet, and is part of Metro Vancouver. It lies northwest of Port Moody and immediately east of the Deep Cove area of North Vancouver, across the waters of Indian Arm. Isolated by geography on a narrow peninsula, Belcarra is accessible by a single winding paved road or by water. Before incorporation it was commonly known as Belcarra Bay. It is largely a residential bedroom community for Vancouver and its suburbs. Belcarra is one of the few communities in this area that is not growing substantially. While the small neighbouring Village of Anmore has grown and changed, Belcarra has remained a relatively small community. This is a result of small land area, relative inaccessibility, and zoning for single family residential homes. Belcarra, County Mayo
Belcarra () is a village in County Mayo, Ireland about south-east of the county town of Castlebar. There are a number of shops in the village, including two general stores, two bars, hardware store and post office. There is also a Catholic church (St. Annes) and a community centre. The community centre plays host to several clubs including a Foroige Club (organised for the young people of the village) and evening classes. The small village received its first county award for the tidiest village in Mayo in 1977, going on to win the county Tidy Towns Award on fourteen occasions in total. Indian Arm
Indian Arm ( hur, səl̓ilw̓ət) is a steep-sided glacial fjord adjacent to the city of Vancouver in southwestern British Columbia. Formed during the last Ice Age, it extends due north from Burrard Inlet, between the communities of Belcarra (to the east) and the District of North Vancouver (to the west), then on into mountainous wilderness. Burrard Inlet and the opening of Indian Arm was mapped by Captain George Vancouver and fully explored days later by Dionisio Alcalá Galiano in June 1792. Geography Indian Arm is a salt-water fjord that extends about north from Burrard Inlet. There are no crossings, and road access is limited to the communities on the southern portion of the arm. William Norman Bole
William Norman Bole, (December 6, 1846 – April 7, 1923) was an Irish-born lawyer, judge and political figure in British Columbia. He represented New Westminster City in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1886 to 1889. He was born in Castlebar, County Mayo, the son of John Bole and Elizabeth Jane Argyle, and was educated in Dublin. In 1877, he arrived at San Francisco, en route to Queensland. Having missed his ship, Bole changed his plans and travelled to Victoria. He was called to the British Columbia bar the following year. Still planning to continue on to Australia eventually, Bole set up practice in New Westminster. In 1881, he married Florence Blanchard Coulthard. In 1884, Bole was named police magistrate for New Westminster. In the same year, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the provincial assembly in a by-election. Anmore
Anmore is a village in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is north of the city of Port Moody and along the shores of the Indian Arm. Anmore is one of three politically independent village municipalities (municipalities with populations under 2,500) in the Greater Vancouver area, the others being its neighbour, Belcarra, and Lions Bay. Etymology Anmore got its name from a local homesteader, F. J. Lancaster, who combined the names of his wife (Annie) and his daughter (Leonore) to make "Annore." Port Moody
Port Moody is a city in British Columbia, Canada, and a member municipality of the Metro Vancouver Regional District. It envelops the east end of Burrard Inlet and is the smallest of the Tri-Cities, bordered by Coquitlam on the east and south and by Burnaby on the west. The villages of Belcarra and Anmore, along with the rugged Coast Mountains, lie to the northwest and north, respectively.
